I finally got word from the 3D printer manufacturer that my sample prints are on their way. I apologize for the slow progress.
 
Quick update here, I placed the order for the 3D printer this morning so I can print the molds for the sand casting. The sample prints looked pretty good even at a low resolution.
 
The printer should be here towards the end of this week, then we'll be making progress again.
 
Hey everyone. Sorry for not updating anything here on the forum for so long, I just didn't have anything to update until now.

The 3D printer arrived at my house last week, but unfortunately I'm out of town on a project and not sure when I'll be home just yet. At any rate, things are still moving forward and I will begin working on creating the molds for the sand casting as soon as I get home.
 
Another update here.

The 3D printer is working beautifully, and I just visited the foundry again this afternoon to show them one of the printed clamp halves to verify that it will work as planned. They were very excited about it and expect that it will work very well. Now I just need to get the remaining pieces printed out and assembled for the pattern.

I also purchased a mill this afternoon so that I can run a boring head through the interior diameter of the clamps halves after casting to remove the draft from the part.

I've just about got the pattern board complete. Only a few more parts to print out before I'm ready to send it off to casting.

I got ya down for two Stumpalama. Sorry for the long delay in replying, I must have missed the notification email that I had new posts.
 
2-1/2 days of sanding, priming, sanding again, priming again, sanding again, painting, painting again, buffing, and finally waxing is done. Tomorrow... sand and paint the board that they will be mounted to and hopefully mount them.

 
All painted up and ready to go to the foundry on Monday morning to run some sample parts and check it out.

 
Good news everyone. They ran some samples at the foundry today and in general everything went very well. The foundry owner was impressed at how well the first run went because there are very little changes that I need to make to the pattern to deal with some shrinkage in one particular part of each piece.

Some more good news is that my buddy who took the prototype with him to the Land Rover National Rally in Ouray said that it held up as expected and the extinguisher never budged from the clamp all week.

This is a part that I machined the inner diameter on just to see how well it is going to work.

I know this update is long overdue, sorry guys. However, since getting back in town after a long month at work, I have been quite busy setting up meetings with local vendors, suppliers, manufacturing companies, etc. to finally nail down all of the remaining details that need to be dealt with. I have also been working on the remaining details that need to be changed with the pattern for the casting which should be all wrapped up this week.

I have two more meetings tomorrow which, if they go well, will bring final resolution to the manufacturing of the mounting base, and the deburring/finishing of the cast parts.

For the sake of time, I have decided to hire a machine shop take care of the machining that I had planned on doing myself. It will add a few dollars to the price, but I am assuming that everyone would rather pay a few more dollars at this point than wait on me to return from work again in order to machine the parts myself. Not to mention that a proper machine shop will without a doubt be able to do better quality work on a CNC than I can do on a manual mill in my garage.
