The truly anally retentive 80 owner's oil filter technique is as follows:
Start filter on threads. Gently spin it by giving it a quick spin so it spins on by itself and gets stopped gently by contact with the oil seal. Back off a turn and give it a gentle spin so it stops itself again. Turn one half turn. Done. It's just an easy way to know the filter's seal has contacted the block if you're not that sensitive. It's also an extremely consistent install.
In 150,000 miles on this 80 I've never had so much as a drop weep out. Rain, shine, heavy summer towing, -10 winter startups, etc. That's about 20 filters.
