1). This was included in the star washer package.....where does it go/what is it for?
ImageUploadedByIH8MUD Forum1397704684.616093.jpg

2). I bought 2 tubes of this for the wheel bearings
ImageUploadedByIH8MUD Forum1397704719.615432.jpg
and 7 tubes of Valvoline Synthetic Moly for knuckle (it was a few dollars cheaper).

Do I also need to by CV grease?? (I have about 80.00 worth of grease please don't say I need more)

3). Can the knuckle felt/rubber/tin ring be re-used?

That is all, thanks in advance.

I don't wth that other thing is that came with the star/lock washer. From my research:
That amsoil is the bees knees for the Birf's(but maybe not for wheel bearings)
The wipers can be reused but since your ALL the way in there why not replace them? They are just about the deepest part of the rebuild so, if I were you, I'd replace them. It would suck ass if the wipers failed in a couple months.

Ok...:so that leads me to another question....

When I was reading up on the supplies I needed people said 6-8 tubes of Moly, but in videos I have been watching they are 4oz tubes....did I way over do it on grease??

Maybe take back the Valvoline, get 3-4 more tubes of Amsoil and a tube of wheel bearing grease?

Only reason I wouldn't replace the wiper is that it is 3 days to get any parts and I planned I was planning on taking advantage of the long holiday weekend.....

Alright, that looks like an inner axle seal with the star, I generally shove a 3(16oz.) cans of moly compound in each side. That is from a spotless knuckle and spotless birfield. I usually tear apart the Birfs when I have the axle torn down that far and clean, inspect and repack with grease as I assemble to make sure there is a tight grease pack... But I'm an over achiever lol.

To fill the cavity you probably need 1.5 bigger tubes of the grease(fill up to 3/4 of the cavity). For bearing you only need about 1/3 or 1/2 tube of grease and that's really packing the grease In and around the bearings.

Most likely you'll have left over grease which isn't a bad think because you can pop them into your grease gun and grease those u joints and drive shaft(don't over fill those drive shafts).

Oh, and as far as felt, rubber and rings, as long as they're all in good shape and don't have tears and excessive wear, then use em. Just make sure to clean them all up, carb cleaner works great , After you clean the felt up with carb clean, rub fresh grease into the felt really well.

Ok so based on above recommendations 5-6 synthetic large Amsoil.

And 2 "wheel bearing grease" tubes.

And that should do it??

I don't think it is the inner seal I have those in a separate package and they have a metal ring around them.

The ones in the pik are just rubber.

Now that I'm looking @ this on my laptop & not my phone they do appear to be inner axle seals. What kit did you order? Those definitely aren't factory Toyota parts if that is in fact an inner axle seal.

They were all in Toyota bags from Beno.

The bag the star washer and that seal was in says, "Plug sub-assy, W/HEA." (I don't think the bag corresponds, as it also says "quantity 5."

I did order a gasket and seal for the rear axle.

Could it be an additional part for the rear??

Bingo! It's the rear inner axle seal, I have a set myself

Axle rebuild - I just did mine this pass weekend. With the help of my wife and kids it was a great and crazy experience. A job that was suppose to be three hour max became a thirteen plus hour MISSION. Six pairs of gloves, half a bottle of simple green, grease lightning, half a bag of rags, four tubes of grease and a lot of patience. My friend by the end of the missions was my $82.00 Dremel and my $8.00 head light. Our mission started at 9:00am Saturday and ended by the light of a full moon elevenish the night. The process was long because as I was tearing down the knuckle I found that the previous mechanic used a rethreaded knuckle cap bolt and missing gaskets, so I decided to take it slow and steady to ensure that I didn't miss placing in any gaskets, screws etc. We ran into some problems, I broke one screw and my wife lost one nut (found later). Now she knows the meaning of Grease Monkey..... Word of advise don't hammer your birfield with a big hammer or you will end up using a Dremel to grind. Thanks to all forums and videos for sharing the knowledge. Until my next project which will require a 3/4 torque wrench. Good luck on your greasy project....

I hope mine doesn't turn into "the mission" almost the same service a few months back but had since gotten caught in water.....for a while, so I re-doing it and this time replacing some bearings. (I also stripped down 1 side last week to see how far the water got in and then put it all back togeather to wait on more parts.)

Of course now that I say that something bad will happen.

As for your 3/4 torque wrench....are you replacing the main seal?? If so, that is a simple job, IMO, compared to the axle service....a lot less parts, less grease and less time.

What was the level of water intrusion from sitting in the mud bath, bad?
Also, did you already replace the felt/wiper when you tore this down a few months back? If so you should be fine reusing it.

Intrusion wasn't terrible, I drained the front diff right away and the fluid was runnier than normal, above proper level and didn't smell as bad (as it normally does). However, the gear lube looked pretty clean. I refilled with cheap stuff until I had time to re do the axles.

I pulled one wheel off and went "all the way in" to the birfield. Grease was discolored but nothing poured out. If I wasn't planning a trip road trip in June I probably would have left it.

It sat buried for about 1.5 hours in this crud.

The rear gear oil looked fine so I left it. I am planning to get to the rear axle, just haven't gotten to it yet.

That's some solid wheeling. Great pics. The ice gets you bonus points.
