When adjusting timing using a timing light with an advance function, do you set the advance to zero and adjust the timing to the BB to get 7 degrees advance? If you want to try 10 degrees do you set the advance function to 3 degrees and time back to the BB (or set to 10 degrees and time to TDC line which should yield the same result, correct?)?

I have an old simple plain inductive timing light. In the winter I set the timing to spec's. In the summer I jack the timing up to outside the window. I do run a Delco straight mechanical advance dizzy and a Rochester carb.
