I mostly just need enough to clear 315's, that's a big as I will go. Do you think the 2.5 heavy will do the trick? I bought an ARB winch bumper off craigslist tonight, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and eventually I will get a rear bumper with a tire carrier so I'm thinking I will need the heavy duty set-up for the extra weight. If I went with the 4" Iron man, do you think I will start getting into driveline issues? I'm also concerned about not getting it in the garage if I go with a 4" lift and I really want to keep it in the dry.
My white 80 has 2.5" heavies up front and is sagged pretty bad under the weight of the ARB and XRC12. If I didn't have other plans I would be putting a set of spacers up front to bring it back up. I just put my IPOR on a few months ago so can't say much about how the medium rears are gonna hold up to that extra weight.
Also, the OME coils are side specific, so if you go that route make sure to pay attention to that. The PO of mine did not and the front passenger is almost an inch lower than the drivers side.
The guy I bought the ARB front bumper from sent me a text and said he has some 4" Slee springs that he will sell for $150, sounds like a deal. I'm just not sure I want to go up to 4", crazy but I want to make sure I can get my 80 in the garage. I'm sorry to ask dumb questions but what else would I need if I bought the springs besides the shocks? I'm really tempted to get those springs. I never thought I would find an ARB bull bar on craigslist but I did and only have to drive about 30 miles to Rogersville to get it. You just never know what you'll find on craigslist.
Not sure what the rating on the slee springs is, but since you are looking at this right now, it is fitting that this thread popped up to the top of the 80 section.
Give it a scan. It is OME specific, but I think it links to some info on the slee springs toward the end.
Shocks and springs are all you need to lift it. Depending on how much the bumpers, batteries, etc. mash it down will dictate if you end up with driveline or other drivability issues.
Still reading but this is exactly what I needed. Sounds like the overall 4" springs is something I don't need. Right now all I will be doing is putting the 315 tires on and the ARB front bumper. Later will come a winch, heavy rear bar with tire carrier and slider. I think I need a little more spring up front and less in the rear and then when I add sliders and rear bar I can just change out the rear springs. Just not sure what springs I need to go with up front and the rear for now. I'll keep reading, I'm sure I will figure it out. Thanks again!
Got my ARB bumper today. It has some gray primer or something on it but no dents. Paid $650, is that too much for a used bumper not in perfect condition? It also has a really ugly plate on the front, really ugly
I bought a aftermarket spindle from Specter off road and after finally getting it today the brass bushing won't slide over my axle. Just curious of anyone has ever had this problem?
How much too small is the bushing? If it is "there is no way this is going in that" small then I would wonder if they sent you a spindle off of a 60 or 40 since they have smaller shafts. I would think the bushing should fit snuggly on it but not bind.
Do you have a set of calipers that you could use to measure the ID of the bushing? Perhaps you got the wrong bushing with it.
I've never installed new brass, so I can't really help as far as how it should fit.
It stops about 2" before hotting the knuckle and it's solid. The old one slides right on with no problem. I'm guessing they sent the wrong bushing. I think we're going to try and pull the bushings and put the old one in the new spindle, see any problem with this other than it's going to be a pain?
Spent some time on the 80 yesterday. New radiator, belts, hoses, front main seal, distributor O ring, and also put a new O ring in the oil pump cover. Breaking the bolt on the harmonic balancer was a lot of fun..........not. Found a video on Utube and used a breaker bar tied to the under side of frame to hold it in place and then bumped the starter until it broke. Pulled the inspection cover at the flex plate to hold in place to tighten the bolt back up and everything was dry in that area so I think except a valve cover gasket, my oil leaks should be about gone.
I called Specter Off Road this morning and the service tech said you have to take some off the brass bushing to get them to fit. He said they're all a little tight because the axles are all a little different. I guess we'll see what happnes
I picked up a brake cylinder hone this morning at NAPA and it worked perfect. Took about 20 minutes but the new bushing slid right on. I finally finished up the axle job today after a few road blocks but I'm glad I did it, well me and a buddy did it. Next project is working on the exhaust. I have a leak somewhere up front and a hanger is broke and pipe is rattling on the undercarriage. The last time I had some exhaust work done I took it to Quick O in Knoxville, hopefully they'll be able to care of it.
Made the drive to Nashville today to pick up my craigslist find, set of TRD 16" Baja wheels. Now I need to order a set of spacers from Slee, decide on a lift ( leaning toward the OME 2.5" heavy on front and rear ) and some 315/75/16 tires. I had a chance to buy a set of BFG KO's in that size a few months ago for $400 but at the time I didn't have a use for them. The guy who bought my Rock Warriors off my 100 had them and they only had 1000 miles on them. Just goes to show you should pick stuff up when it's a great deal because there's always a use for it sooner or later. Who knows, maybe I'll find a good set here or on craigslist. A mud member sent me a message today and said he had all 3 rows of gray cloth seats that he would sell for $800. These $800 and $1000 parts are breaking the bank but I really want manual cloth seats so maybe he'll come down on price some.
I found a guy who is parting a 97 LC out and I'm going over to buy the seats this week. I got a set of gray leather seats for $100. Bonus, they're manual and the leather is good. Can you think of any other parts I should grab that may wind up going bad on my 93? I guess I'm not sure what all will interchange with mine. I thought about grabbing the steering box and PS pump just in case.
Everything but dash parts should swap, headlights, tail lights, battery box, door trim cards, birfs, axles, body parts, pretty much most any hard part should swap. Basically I'd grab whatever you can carry that sounds priced reasonable.
Basically, plugs, plug wires, cap rotor, PCV valve, some new tubing and an air filter. Drive belts are cheap from the dealer if you haven't done those yet. What I really need to do is valve cover gasket and spark plug seals. I should have done all of this at the same time. IMHO, plug #6 is a PITA to remove/install, BTW.
