The 45 is a diesel pickup however local law enforcement frowns on putting the kids in the back thus the need for the LJ78.

you were one of the lucky ones.
you must have a light foot too:)
I am sure there a wicked little engine if your not looking for sports car power.

I have done close to 40,000 on an original head:rolleyes:. 15-16lbs of boost daily, the computer thinks it's only 12-13 lbs of boost though. Lowest EGT temps it has run even since bone stock. I'ts too bad it didn't come out of the factory like that. There was some bad information that came out telling people to shim the turbo waste gate or to use a boost controller to increase the boost to help out with lowering the EGT's. This is not a good Idea on a computer controlled fuel system like the 2lte. The more boost the computer see's the more fuel it adds. High boost bring on higher intake air temps. More boost tells the computer to increase fuel. Put the two together and it spells disaster. This bothered me for a while because I couldn't see how increasing the boost would help on lowering EGT's on the fuel system of the 2lte. My best advice is to increase the boost to a reasonable amount like 10-12 pounds and keep the computer thinking it is two pounds less at full boost. I have done this on mine by installing a bleed off valve on the vacume line to the boost sensor. This for me has worked well. Much lower EGT temps and a good increase in fuel economy and also upping the boost gave more power. This can be done for almost no cost.

Take care

good info...
but

i played with the boost and the pyro readings and the pyro does read less with increased boost. you also have to remember very seldom are you going to see 14 lbs boost even if you do have the availibility sitting there. you will be having your foot right to the floor
so
if you are seeing 14 lbs regularily then it is time to change your driving habits.

<<when you see 300000 on the original head then you can start bragging>>

HMMMMM. That's funny I also played with the boost and the pyro and found that the more boost I added the hotter the exhaust seemed to get. As you may already know, boost is load sensitive. You can reach full boost at 20 km per hour going up a slight hill at half throttle. Try and remember way back before your 2lte's blew up and you may remember that the turbo on a 2lte has no middle point. You are either a few pounds of boost or full boost and this is mostly due to the fact that the 2lte is under powered and see's large engine loads all the time. By the way, I'am not bragging I just want to give owners some good news about the possibilities of a long lasting 2lte. I was going to do a small write up on how to add more boost and not more fuel but what's the point there are to many aholes on this site. If any one want's to know pm me. Thanks crushers you saved me spending time doing a write up.:flipoff2::flipoff2:

Take care

okay, okay...
at an AA (assholes anomous) meeting...
"hi, my name is Wayne and i am an a******"
<everybody chime in> "hi Wayne"

do your write up, i feel it is good info.

it is just i hear "my 2lTE has done 20,000 km, (40,000 km) etc and no issues so you are full of crap" and then the next month you read somewhere his head blows. i get tired of it. once one of these in Canada sees 300,000 (WITHOUT any major issues) then start the feeling of confidence.

seriously, if it was a $500 repair with no further issues then i would be all over the old girls.

(but then, you look at the:
- 3B fine spline alternator vacumm pump repair at $2000.
- HDT BEB issue repair at anywhere fom $6000 to $10,000.
- the full time front diff noise repair of the 80 series at $3000
- the head cracking issues of the 3B at $2500
- the oil journal plug on the 3F / 3FE which when it pops drains the entire oil supply in seconds leaving you with a $3000 repair bill
- the automatic burn out repair bill of between $4K and $6.5K
- the fluid seal between the manual tranny and the split case when not caught in time results in either a burnt tranny or t/case which can range from $2500 used to over $6K new to fix)

i could go on but these are the issues we all have to live with depending on the Toyota we drive.

Hi Crushers.....When you complete your therapy at "******s
anomous" are you going to start saying nice things about the LJ78 and the 2L-TE? Have you admitted to your family that you are seeking help or are you keeping it on the sly?
Good luck................1978HJ45

well, first i have to stop missing my group sessions. then i have to find something positive to say about the 2LTE. (i have lots of positive to say about the rest of the truck)

and , .... , the rest of the family already know that i am an ***hole ...

As with most therapy admitting that you have a problem is a positive first step. However missing sessions is kinda defeating the purpose and that is probably the nights where they serve the best snacks. Being a caring person and a LJ78 owner I hope it all goes well for you. ..........................1978HJ45
