Hey everyone,

I’m flying in to Portland tomorrow morning to buy my first 100 series, as the title suggests, and I’m looking for a reputable mechanic that some of you may know to preform a PrePurchase Inspection. Maybe he’s a land cruiser guy or maybe he’s just been turning a wrench for the last 80 years, but someone who knows their stuff. I’m buying the Cruiser from Columbia Motors and driving it about 10 hours home. Give me a shout if you know someone in the area that can help me out! Thanks

Landcruiser NW is usually slammed, but they'd be the best so I would call them.

It would probably take 30 min to get there from SE Division, so keep that in mind as well.

Edit: Also $12K for rebuilt title 99 w 230k i would think twice

Have you heard much about it or know anything about this 100 in particular?

I'd think you'd have it inspected somehow before flying but that's just me

What's a rebuilt title, salvage title?
Edit: Looked it up. Yeah salvaged then rebuilt. Pass for me dog especially with that many miles

I would pass on it. That thing should be much lower in price. I paid $13k 6 years ago for my almost pristine '02 with 150k on it. Was owned by a doctor and then a sales manager at Toyota; both took excellent care of it. Keep shopping around; if you are patient, you will find a fantastic option at that same price.

I’ve already negotiated a pretty good price for it and I’ve been looking around the past 6 months and the prices for the same mileage/ built/ options just keep going up.
I don’t think you can buy 06 with 150k for $13k anymore

I haven't. Have you seen the carfax? Those dealers in that area of town are sketch. I would stay away from anything but a clean title.

Honestly this seems like a safer bet:

And there’s actually no service records at all. It’s been tossed around by dealers recently.
carfax shows records up to a few years ago before it go into that rear hatch accident. I’ll be doing the timing belt/ WP/ other maintenance as well after I drive it home

Got it. Just trying to help out. I had a salvaged title vehicle in the past and it was not a good experience when i eventually chose to sell it.

edit: didnt realize i posted that link twice

Have you asked if they would take the vehicle for inspection before you fly up?
I appreciate any words you have for me. And I’m hoping because it was all rear damage that if anything comes up, it’ll be cosmetic. And no, I did not ask the shop to inspect it before I flew up. I guess the thought was I didn’t want them to bring it to a shop they work with and potentially just give me the “A-OK” without a true inspection. I’d rather have it done at a land cruiser shop. Turns out Landcruiser PW inc is closed for spring break? I just called and email’d, hopefully I get a response soon.
Anything y’all know to look out for specifically on this platform? ABS pump failure signs? Funny leaks? Sounds?
Anythjng helps!

yeah it was just "rear hatch damage" but still bad enough to salvage it

guess it plans on what you're going to do with it
Right. I’m thinking it was rear hatch/ bumper/ maybe some side trim too, lights+ electrical on a 200k+ mileage car. It was prob worth 6k to insurance and probably that much in parts and labor so it was totaled. Unless the frame was bent/ axle replaced so I’ll make sure to check for those things

Dean's car care usually has a lot of jdm toyo's and a lot of 60's there all the time, but idk about their 100 series knowledge.

There is a way to check dealer maintenance history using the vin, and you can crosscheck that with carfax to get a better history. You could just take it to the dealer for the ppi...
