Big thanks to everyone who chimed in and gave a fellow mudder some valuable information and a HUGE shoutout to @Ayune for meeting up with me, giving me his knowledge and expertise, checking all the things I wouldn’t have seen, and being a friendly neighbor from a state away. I went ahead and purchased the vehicle for $10,090 knowing I was taking a gamble but when I learned the ABS system was replaced less than 100k miles ago and I saw the timing had been done about 90k miles ago I was relieved.
The vehicle is clean and in great working order (besides the misfire that started maybe 10 miles into the drive this morning lol- I had my code reader with me a found a misfire cylinder 1- coil pack so I fixed that at a local shop, cleared the code, and hit the road- been driving for about 300 miles now without issue)
It’s has an OME suspension, yielding about a 2” lift on 33” BFG ATs, rear and center lockers function very well. No leaks, no squeaks, no funny business. I’m excited to join the hundred club so thank you all again. I appreciate all your words.
Thats great! Glad Ayune had the time and was willing to help out. I’ve used some of his write ups in the past, and he’s clearly someone who knows his way around a 100.

Enjoy your new wheels!

Yes, it did indeed work out well, congratulations!

From another Portland Land Cruiser nerd, congrats man. Enjoy that drive home.

Anyone want to confirm? I believe the timing belt service is due everyone 90k miles on our trucks so I think that should be top of your priority when you get home.

Cool color rig by the way!

Yup! Already looking at some timing kits to buy.
I'll be replacing the radiator while I'm at it as well, and maybe all the other coil packs/plugs. Any other maintenance items you suggest while I have it taken apart?

Hey everyone,

I’m flying in to Portland tomorrow morning to buy my first 100 series, as the title suggests, and I’m looking for a reputable mechanic that some of you may know to preform a PrePurchase Inspection. Maybe he’s a land cruiser guy or maybe he’s just been turning a wrench for the last 80 years, but someone who knows their stuff. I’m buying the Cruiser from Columbia Motors and driving it about 10 hours home. Give me a shout if you know someone in the area that can help me out! Thanks
I see you've been looking for a while and are in Northern CA....did you by chance see this one? Looks like it's fits the bill for what you were looking for. Curious what your thoughts are on it, thinking about checking it out.

Yes, I did visit that one. I was turned away by the amount of rust on it. Difficult to see from the pictures present, but there are a few integral places on the frame that I was skeptical about. If I remember correctly, one of the crossmembers had an area of rust that looked like a crusty french pastry. There were other rust spots like it too, and I made my decision knowing I was going to keep my hundred for a long time, and wheel it accordingly. I did not want a suspension bracket or anything of the sort to crack or fail while I was miles into the outback. On top of the rust issue I was unable to actuate the rear locker, and tried in multiple ways to get it to work. Maybe the owner has since fixed this, or you can bargain him down because of this mishap. Not a bad deal if it is to be a daily driver around town or winter mountain trips, but from what I can tell, it wouldn't be the best platform to wheel on. Goodluck in your search. I also know a friend who is selling a '99 100 with 330k miles with a factory locker for about $6 or $7k.

Man. Well I really appreciate the feedback! I'd love to find a solid, reliable 100 but I can't pay 12-15k either, and it feels like anything with less than 200k miles is way up there. It'll mainly be a hunting/camping truck for me, definitely no rock crawling...just some rougher fire roads but it will be on the pavement 350 days of the year. Feels like the prices on these things just keep going up, I probably just need to pull the trigger already haha

I think I got lucky with mine, I was able to get it for the price because of it's title condition so I would hunt around for a rebuilt car that had some re-end damage, you might strike a nice deal.
