Purchasing low mileage garage queen 60

More than a rhetorical question, but what would be the concerns about buying a low mileage (say15-18k miles) series 60?
Photos look good regarding the exterior and interior. Assuming all the moving parts involved in a vehicle might need a ton of attention?
No experience with buying a 30-40 year old vehicle online.
 
Sounds like it would fetch a high dollar. I would not consider this purchase w/o an actually seeing/driving it. Even if it’s a long way from you, air fare is cheap insurance.
 
If the price is right, go for it. Age is a factor and be prepared to replace everything over time.
 
Yes, a pre purchase inspection before delivery of funds should be mandatory. Things I would check, in no particular order:
1. Fuel tank recall completed
2. Compression and leak down test
3. Suspension condition
4. Engine inspection for leaks
5. Carfax for accident history, if any
6. Smog component completeness and serviceability
7. Vacuum readings
8. Paint condition and verification
9. Rust assessment for frame and body

Is this purchase from an individual or dealer? Either way, both should be fine with you checking the above and verifying. If not, then it’s a potential red flag.

Check for respray. And it’s gonna leak oil.
 
I wouldn't trust anything with that low of mileage seems suspicious very easy to unhook the speedometer cable or possibly ferris Buller day off trick or any kind of scam these days

It’s at a dealership and not a Toyota one. They’re asking a LOT. My flawed thinking is for a high upfront cost it would run like new and save me on costs of upkeep as I used it as a potential daily driver, which I know is flawed thinking.

Interestingly it was sold on BaT just a few months ago. I found the auction listing and there are a ton of photos at least. Im not sure what to make of such a fast turnaround after selling on BaT.

Fast turnaround is suspect...especially if asking a premium price.
 
There’s a motto that holds true for very old vehicles:

Disuse is abuse.
 
There better be rock-solid documentation to support that ultra, ultra low Odo.

I would have no issue buying such a vehicle directly from a long-term owner who possesses records. Even sight unseen. For top dollar. Been there, done that many times. But I have a severe aversion to dealers and especially flippers who want top dollar but know absolutely nothing about the history of the vehicle.

Are you intending to drive this 60 on the regular? Have you ever owned, maintained and driven a three or four decade old vehicle?
 
Thanks. CARFAX and BaT seem to suggest this was a vehicle parked in peoples’ garages and only driven occasionally, though I can’t definitively verify this. I’m working on having someone reliable do an independent inspection.

No, I haven’t had a 30 plus year old vehicle, and don’t want me eyes to be bigger than my stomach as it were. Any series 60/62 I might get would at least initially not be my primary vehicle. I guess I’d like it to be as reliable as it could be so it *could* be my daily driver if I wished.
 
95K reserve not met, 100K and it's probably yours
