Just finished converting my 40 to hydro assist steering. It had an existing Saginaw conversion with a custom mount seized to a cracked steering box. Basically had to cut everything off the frame and start fresh.

Parts I used:
BTB Products weld on mounting plate
Rebuilt cardone steering box from advance auto(cheap) drilled and tapped myself
PSC 6 inch ram and hoses- externally limited to around 5.5 inches
Ruff Stuff tie rod clamp- converted to double shear
WFO hydro assist ram mount- Works great. Same spot as old steering stabilizer.

I haven’t taken it off road and have only taken it on a 20 minute test drive after the conversion. Steering got faster after I worked the last of the air bubbles out of the system and everything works good, definitely safe, useable and driveable.

However I did noticed the slightest stall on some low speed maneuvering. I may have a little more air in the system, that just may be a side affect of the hydraulic ram. I can’t help but wonder though if the whole system may be underpowered by my stock power steering pump (small block Chevy)?

If I upgrade the stock Chevy pump to a high flow pump will that eliminate the slight delay in the system that is coming from the ram?
