As reported in another thread, the magic smoke got out of my MV-50. I couldn't find anything better than a Puma for less than $300, so that's what I got.
The MV-50 motor, case and power cord is still fine if anyone wants spare parts.

I saw that somewhere plus read several threads with positive comments all in addition to watching other trucks airing up while I was farting around with my 50. Looking forward to getting this wired up. I will run #6 wire to the battery with a 60amp fuse. I want to source a driver side 3rd row seat bracket I can modify to make a shelf out of for the compressor.
Is there any need for the regulator? I think pulling that and and adding a 90 degree elbow in its place will make a better positioned coupler.

Consider a breaker, a fuse is only good once. Very popular to dump the reg and add the 90°, less weight faster truck...

I love mine best bag for the buck! I have been using #9 wire with a 40 amp fuse since it fits the fuse box for about a year now. No issues or popped fuses even when the stereo system fridge CB and amp are all pumping out juice at the same time. I do have a breaker for the main rear power supply just in case.

are you sure it was #9 wire? I've been 2 world fairs and a goat fxxxin contest and never seen no #9 wire.

I heard you were mighty proud of your 1 st place trophy, Bro'

:flipoff2:

LOL, its 10 gauge wire.

How is the 10 holding up? Seems small for the load. I was planning 6 but had a hard time finding it. Now I am looking at 4. If I run 4 it will probably replace the 10 I have running to the back for the fridge then ad a positive terminal block in the back and connect the puma, fridge and spare outlet with separate 10 to the block in back...

Goatback Mountain meets Worlds Fair. Shannon still can't talk about it.

I'm glad to see the standard handle on the Puma. Performance and reliability for the price are unmatched. Check with ToolsRUs about getting a IR mini impact for quick tire changes too.

Still going since Feb 2012.

I have access to #4 fine strand for $1/ft

#10 is rated at 30A per NEC. Puma shut off around ~50A

Thank you, LCP. I may take you up on that. Did you wire yours to the starting battery or is it off of the house battery in the back?
I call BS if you say it runs on solar:D

The evolution of my Puma wiring.
First was #10 due to some bad information:eek:
Next it was run off the starting battery via #4 cu.
When the rear battery was added I used the #4 cu to wiring to wire the batteries together. At that time I wired the Puma to the rear battery. With the batteries wired together and Puma wired to the rear battery and the truck running I would still voltage too close to 12V for my liking when the Puma was close to shutting off ~50A.
I then installed a hand throttle to up my output of the alternator to ensure my voltage stays above 12v also cutting my air up time around ~15sec a tire.

Call or PM me on the amount of #4 needed.

Mine arrived today with the leg bent in. It is standing on 3 feet. Debate whether I should return for replacement. For those who upgraded the wires, did you take out the stock wires or just tap new wires to the stock wires? I bought 6 awg jump start cable from HF and will use that.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

we run the wires from/to the battery

BTW, jumper cables are not necessarily what the number says - I had to send one back to Summit.com that consisted simply of two 12-gauge wires for each color, not the 6-gauge it was advertised to be - they did send me a refund, even though I had cut the clips off :D
