With how expensive aftermarket parts have gotten I’m sure most people just go with oem, but just wanted to say to always stick with OEM! These Monroe rear shocks are clearly much smaller than the Toyota ones. I also did have to buy new retainers that fit the oem shocks and they were more expensive than the shocks! I did have a question though, since I don’t have a small enough torque wrench for the top nut, how tight should they be? The squished rubber pucks tell me it’s way too tight?

Figured it out when installing the second shock, it seems that the flanged retainer needs to be added second from the bottom, so it can properly mount into the hole (see photo). I realized this when i noticed how much the second shock moved around in the hole and after moving it down, it helped with tightening the top nut snug but not overly compressing the rubber pucks. I originally had that flanged retainer on the very top.

Men I was wondering about an aftermarket shocks, idk what to do, I posted a thread about this topic. I really want a comfortable car, very soft.
So, which tire specs do you have on your car? I think it can affect the shocks efficiency. I mean you got the OEM, which tire number you got?

Only had the LC for 3 years, it had 275/70R16 (stock size).

On my 2000 LX470 when I had Slee remove my AHC and replace it with their medium 1 1/2" OME lift kit the shocks were replaced with the OME Nitro Sports which I felt were too harsh. I went back to OEM Toyota shocks (same length) and they were fine but a bit too soft (lean in the turns) Finally ended up with Dobinson's extended travel IMS shocks. My Trailer Tech extended sway bar links got the suspension to the perfect point for me. Have to say the Toyota OEM shocks are pretty damn good though
