If you're still running carb think this way:

All the benefits of an injection system - smooth running down to almost 100rpm, smooth pickup, and will run on almost any angle without flooding or starving (including upside down!)

You are correct there are off road benefits but
Marshall (Trollhole) was thinking about the benefits of fuel economy. He already is going to have TBI fuel injection so he is covered in that respect. compared to a carb, gas injection does have benefits for off road applications

Well sort of.

More for keep it clean on the trails. But it's just not cost effective. But it's a good thread anyway for others.

Propane here is around 50c a Ltr Aus

Gas is 1.40Ltr Aus

Government rebate for switching to Propane $2000Aus in your pocket cost to switch new around $2400 Aus

All good here:bounce:

PS my gas ring is on it's way to Florida I think, someone was smart enough to realize it will soon be obsolete:D

Wahooo.....

Thanks again!

In Utah I have residential service from AmeriGas for about $1.60 a gallon this summer and its up over 2.25 now. But I keep two tanks and have a wet-leg to fuel my tanks myself. Its awesome! Now the only thing I buy at a gas station is beer :)

It's very cost effective in Australia its more than half price where i'm from. Gas is $1.59, propane is $0.67. The government pays for most of the conversion and its good for green!! :bounce: You'd be crazy not to.

If I could.... My setup (Impco 200 and Model E) would run CNG. (Compressed Natural Gas) The tanks have really evolved a ton and are much lighter as they are made with composites. Yet, they are very expensive. There are plenty of fueling stations in Utah thanks to Questar. There is even a home fueling option. My only issue is that in going from LPG to CNG I have to work with 3800psi instead of 400psi. I don't even know where to begin on getting the fuel lines....... Oh, CNG in utah is $0.59 a gallon.

A gallon of CNG is still a gas.
a gallon of LPG is a liquid that needs to be converted to a gas. So, you actually get a lot more out of a tank by going LPG.

BTW, propane is one of the constituents of natural gas..

The PSI is not a huge issue. Most propane places have the lines necesary. In fact, I bet the lines you currently have will work fine (honestly a lot of the nat gas stuff and propane stuff is pretty interchangeable)

man i was confused before i started reading ....worse now ,i was thinking of looking into this for a 1f(66 fj 40)

It really is not complex at all

Wild. I always assumed that they compressed it to liquify it..... I will stay with LPG for quite some time though because I bought a ton of Impco Carbs and Mixers on Ebay.

CNG has much less range and less power. Also needs a lot more ignition advance so a dual curve to get good power is a must (wheras with LPG the extra advnace required is less so can do without it).

What year is your troopie?

Range

Speaking of range, has anyone found say a 15 gallon tank, or is everyone using the 8 or 10 gal. fork truck tank.

With kids in the back seat I need something to fit underneath.

I have found a couple old tractor tanks but they are about 30 gallons. 18 Dia. is way too big.

Pretty much the aluminum forklift tanks.... You might try to find a tank from an older crown victoria ran LPG. Also, you might be able to find out who is making the tanks that Roush is putting in their new LPG Ford F150.....
