I've had my '95 80 for about six years now. It is real basic, just a body lift and a bit of trimming to fit the 37's. It has worked fine, but now that the Rubicon trip has materialized, and I now happen to own a untouched 3x locked '93 80, some decisions needed to be made. My original intention was to keep the '95 and part out the '93. But frankly the body, chassis and interior of the '93 are in better shape than my '95, the '93 has fewer miles. Therefore I have decided to do some (a lot) of work to the '93 and part out the '95.

When I bought the '93, I knew the running lights did not work, the windows would not go up or down, the diff locks and CDL are inop, and it has a significant exhaust leak at the cats. To date I have fixed up the lights and the windows.

So here are my plans for the '93:

- Pull the drivetrain
- Reseal
- Replace all hoses
- Fix CDL
- Install 3.1 low range gears
- Swap '95 exhaust (newish Magnaflow downpipe and cat) into '93
- Delete Pair system / move O2 sensors to manifolds
- 2" Dobinson long travel lift
- 1-2" body lift
- Swap sliders from '95
- Buy/build F & R bumpers
- Install Badlands 12k winch
- Build skid plate

Here is a picture of the victim for reference:

Looks like a fun project

Got it registered, drove it to work a few days last week. Other than the large exhaust leak, it is running pretty good. Replaced the throttle cable and adjusted the hood latch and stops.

It does have a tendency to idle at 400rpm, generally when mostly fully warmed up. IOW, 5-15 minutes after cold start. After it is fully warmed, it idles at 600. Any ideas?

So I've gotten some time here and there. Swapped out the headlights and horns from the '95. Started to the pull the RF fender and snorkle from the '95, but have a bunch of broken clip nuts in the wheel well I will need to deal with.

Also played around with the locker today. They were inop when I bought the truck. I didn't take notice on the test drive, but the CDL light and ABS light were also not coming on. Added a CDL switch, but still no light. So I got under it today and jumpered the TC switch. That made the dash light up like a christmas tree, and one of the two diff lock light came on solid. The other flashed.

Got my son out to drive it back a forth while I watched the wheels. Both lockers are engaged, so it looks like the rear axle sensor is caput too. Needless to say I am happy with that result.

The transfer case in the '95 has never given me a bit of trouble, so it will get rebuilt with the low range gears.

So not a lot has happened to the '93. Been pulling the '95 apart, transferring some parts to the '93. Also accumulating parts. Picked up a set of used TJM 2" front springs, and a set of OME stock height springs along with a set of Fox shocks.

Also ordered a set of wheels for the 37" KO2's. Have not been able to find anything on CL after looking for the last six months, and came across a great deal on ebay.

Plan to start cutting of the shell of the '95 in a couple weekends, then will pull it's drivetrain. The remainder of the chassis will be drug out and set aside for another day to make room to work on the '93. I have taken the last week of April off to thrash on the '93 and hopefully take care of the drive train.

So the deconstruction of the '95 continues. Kind of sad:

Yes, I sure do.

And this is where we left it today:

One rocker left to cut out, but got to drop the fuel tank before finishing that side.

On a side note, I've got to say I am impressed with the Lenox Lazer carbide sawzall blade. One blade has cut the truck up, and cut it up fast. I've used the Diablo carbide blades in the past, but I think it will be Lenox in the future.

Kinda sad, but at the same time satisfying to get it done and out of your life.

I like your boy's OSHA approved work boots!

 the man behind the camera was in air toed sandals ;)

And Crusha, you can the see the Jeepster hangin in the background...

So the tear down of the '95 comtinues. I hope to have to chassis out of the barn by the end of the weekend. I wonder if the scrap yards are open?

Doubt it.

I think you need to have your signature notarized on the title for them to take a vehicle.

To take a whole vehicle, yes. BTDT.

Cut up like this, my understanding was it is just scrap metal at this point. The title is staying with the chassis, I've got plans for it in the future.

Didn't realize the frame was staying in the barn.

What plans???

Haven't decided. The 80 series has great bones, no doubt about it. I have always had a soft spot for the Land Rover Discovery II. They have terrible bones  Can be had cheap. Find one with a good body/interior and blown engine, swapping that onto the 80 chassis, adding in a LS V8, etc.

Or buying back my old Cherokee, or finally bringing back the Jeepster, and doing much the same. Whatever it is, it will be a mutt.

Heck, with the Cherokee, I would probably keep the entire drivetrain Toyota, since they were set up for a straight six. No way that could happen the Jeepster or Disco, the Jeepster was snug with the Dauntless V6, and the Disco fits a small V8.

I wonder if the scrap yards are open?

Just checked with CSR in Harrisburg this past week. They're open for processing and accepting commercial account drop-offs, but not "walk in" drop-offs. I've got a pile building up.

Not a shock. With the weather what it was this weekend, wasn't all the motivated to get the remains loaded up anyway.

But I did make some progress. Finally drained the coolant and pulled the core support and radiator. Got the electric overhead hoist I picked up at a yard sale hung from a beam over the engine. Power steering lines and motor mount bolts are all that are left keeping the engine and trans attached to the frame.
