Nice thread...........until this!! Man!!...... but with your fab skills should be looking pretty in no time

Well, I have an appointment to have the truck looked at on the 21st. The two side doors are dented in, but the glass, locks, and window actuators are all find. The windows still roll up and down.

The damage to the "dog leg" (i thinkg thats the term the shop used) or the front of the rear wheel well is the concerning spot. Its smashed in a bit, but not to the point where it couldnt be pulled out and fixed in my opinion.

I bought the truck for 10k a few years back. Its a clean truck and well taken care of. It has all my custom parts seen in this thread and 165k on the clock. It drives and runs strong. Im wondering what its worth so the adjuster doesnt try and dick me around and say its old and not worth fixing. I was thinking around $9k from what ive seen other used trucks sell for.

ill post pics of the damage

What, no pics of the RR? :-)

Wow, that sucks hard. Looks like going with tube doors aint an option where you live. Good luck with the insurance and repairs.

I'll try and get some from my friend that drove by after it happened. By the time I got home the Police and vehicles were all gone.

I could make some tube doors, but my 4Runner is the crawler, the 80 is my hunting/fishing trip rig. Not to mention its below 0* here this time of year.

STRENGTH OF THE 80-SERIES!!! But that still sucks, hopefully insurance gets you sorted out!

Keep dreaming! No matter what the cruiser is staying with me.... ;p

I cant see it being totaled when the doors are the only major damage. The B and C pillars have a bit of damage, but the doors still close just fine.

Up here in Canada if that happened, you'd still own the truck and they cannot take it away from you. It's yours. Unless a police officer deems it unsafe to drive they cannot impound or otherwise stop you from driving it around. And certainly cannot take it away. Even if its deemed unsafe you can still take the lic plates off it, then park it inside your garage.

If they won't give you enough money to repair it properly, you can still claim the max amount and they write you a cheque for the amount, you fix what you can and leave the rest. As long as it will pass a safety inspection you're golden at that point.

If you want to fight them to have it completely fixed up properly then you may need legal counsel.

Doors? You don't need no stinking doors! Sorry about the wreck. I'll bet you would rather have done it yourself while wheeling instead of having some idiot neighbor driving too fast! Awsome fabrication, keep the pictures coming! L.B.

Those doors look sweet! I might have to steal that idea for my 4 runner....

This time of year though, that would not be a good idea... 10 degrees outside!

Took the truck in to have it looked at today. They estimate a little over 4500 worth of damages. Waiting to see if Geico approves the estimate and then I'll just have them cut me a check.

Replace the doors, pull out the dented dog leg of the rear fender and repaint the entire truck.

Atleast this will give me a chance to remove all of the fender flares and weld up the holes before the paint job.

Yeah I'd be right there with you. Best looking custom one I've seen so far.

X3 if you ever decide to build front bumpers for sale I'm in...send me PM if you ever decide to do it. Great skills by the way:cheers:

I'd take off the roof rack while you're at it. Just invites rust and you can always get a rack that mounts to the rain gutters instead.

Removed the roof rack. Now to tackle removing the headliner....

Anyone have any tips on that? I havent found a thread on removing it... I guess i could start pulling stuff apart and see as I go, but would like to see where to start.

Did you buy the materials locally or online?

the metal for bumper and sliders

If you're local to Matt there are plenty of places that can hook you up with steel. If you need something in specific I can probably help out if you're in Reno. We order a lot of plate and tube at work.

I'm in SoCal. I found some local suppliers. Thanks
