So about weeks ago i installed slee's upgraded headlight wiring harness for the driving lights. everything went well, took about an hour, and everything worked fine for 2 weeks.

Then my PS headlight went dead, i thought it was just a crappy sylvania silverstar light bouncing loose. then 3 nights ago the DS light went out as well. I popped the hood, checked the ground connections and the OEM fuses, and everythign appeared fine. i slammed the hood down and the PS light came on.....WIERD......

both sylvania bulbs look fine, and arnt burnt out. the stock light bulbs wont even work in the DS.

last night i got pulled over by the cops, with no headlights and somehow talked my way out of a ticket.

anyone have any idea what tht heck is wrong......

help

I had this problem too, check and make sure the ground it good!

Mine came loose and had the same symptoms you do.

I ground the body to bare metal and locktighted the ground bolt to it and it works like a champ!

should i ground to the existing bolt where the OEM lights were grounded

pull out the bulb to see if the harness plug is showing any signs of heat. I had the exact same problems and when it finally stopped working all together the bulb and slee harness fused together, I called christo and he sent me a new pigtail that I soldered on and it works great now.

what would signs of heat look like. would the prongs on the slee harness be a green color?

Call me Crazy....

but why don't you give Slee a call. They are always friendly and glad to help, and in my case, answer stupid questions whenever I call. I am sure they have had something like this in the past and can tell you what to look for. Might be quicker than waiting for for an answer from a bunch of people who have been drinking all day and surfing ih8mud.

Just a thought....

Use a good ground location. I cannot remember where the OEM lights were grounded but if it is close by then that would be the recommended ground point.

Take the chassis ground connections off each side, and clean aggressively, wire brush, sand paper. Then reinstall with dielectric grease.

Lesson learned the wrong way.

The most common problem is the connection between the truck harness and the upgrade harness. First determine if the relays are clicking when the lights are switched on or flipped from low to high beam.

If that is the case the problem is not on the switching side, the problem is on the power delivery to the bulb.

If the relays don't click the problem is on the switching side.

Things to look for.

1. Where the harness plug into the OE harness. The little male pins are very thin. In some cases the factory female side has been opened up and does not make contact. Or in rare cases the factory part was burned or melted. Disconnect harness from the vehicle harness and inspect the oe side. If needed use a pick to manipulate the contacts so that they are closer together and make good contact with the upgrade harness.

2. Check the connectors on the upgrade harness that the pins did not push back in the plastic connector.

3. Check that the connectors in the relay sockets did not push back out of the sockets.

4. Check the pigtails that plug into the bulbs. In some cases they melt due to cheap bulbs that put off to much heat.

5. As mentioned, check the grounds.

We also recommend using di-electric grease on the connectors to prevent corrosion. I have been running a harness in my truck since 2003 with no corrosion issues, however I have talked to people that have only had it for 6 months and the connectors showed signs of corrosion when they did not use grease.

Christo, would you consider Sylvania Silver Star bulbs cheap and give off too much heat?

soooooooooooooooooo i squirted die electric grease into all the plugs, checked the grounds quickly and still no lights are working....

to make matters worse... my truck threw a check engine light this morning..arrrr

I bought the slee harness a couple of years ago too. Had issues from the start with the power connectors not fitting tightly. I had the low beam lights blinking on and off due to the poor fit of the harness. I will take low light over no light.

IMO, while the factory harness gives lower voltage by design then the Slee harness, I am sticking with the factory harness. The factory harness's connections are much better to seal out water and mud then the other harness.

I ditched the harness after this happened to me a couple years ago. I noted no difference with it connected, and without it connected, I have never had another issue.

I initially had troubles with my Slee harnes with the '84. There was a wiring problem caused by the initial installer--it somehow caused the vehicle to stall when the turn indicator was used.:D

I first used some of the super duper brighter than bright bulbs and had problems with the connections melting. After this was fixed, I switched to HIR bulbs and have had no problems in about 2 years.

On earlier harnesses the connectors that plugged into the vehicle harness had really thin pins. We have since upgraded those to be ticker. Probably for the last year or more.

There is no doubt that the Toyota connectors are good, catch is one can not find them. The connectors used on these harnesses are exactly the same as what is used on GM vehicles. Not necessarily a good thing :D but that is what is available to the aftermarket.

yeah, i just lost my high beams. i called and talked to christo, super nice guy no doubt. my harness is really old, old i had to attach something from the guys to fit my driving lights. i recently lost my driving lights and highbeams and it is such a rats nest i have no idea where to look. i DO here a "click" whem i flip the high beams on.

i have checked each connection and cleaned with WD40. i will try some dielectric grease and look for grounds. i am an electrical idiot so i am just going to fiddle around i guess...

well now at least i have one headlight working, and i think i might have one bummed out relay.

i guess ill head to the auto parts store and try to scrounge up a relay and see if that fixes the DS light.

Somehow tonight the check engine light wet off as well... i hope it stays off.

cheers for the help lads
