I'm seriously thinking about getting a 95 to 97 FZJ80 as a sibling to my FJ62 and could use some help with pricing.

What do you all think is a fair price for a clean 95 to 97 with lockers, leather and about 100k miles? The ASKING prices here in Southern California are generally about 13K to 15K for rigs of that vintage and approximate mileage.

Also, what are your thoughts about private party deals versus used car lot deals? Most of the available rigs are on used car lots. I'm a bit reluctant to deal with the used car lots.

Finally, is there any reason why I should not consider a Lexus LX450? The asking prices are in the same ballpark as FZJ80s.

Many thanks.

...vintage...

You would be wise not to mention that word in this forum. :D

Seems like the LX450's go for cheaper for some reason. LX supposedly offers softer ride with little more amenities (CD changer?, auto climate control?, etc...) Wealthy previous owners of the LX's might not have had as hard of times shelling out the $$$ for routine/preventive maintenance than the poor (cheap ;) ) LC owners. :D

Good luck!

I looked for about a year for a 80 and ended up finding a deal on a LX. It was a about a grand cheeper than comparable 80's I had found. TX seem to be the best spot to look.

forgot, the LX is more expensive insurance wise for the same year landcruiser.

My preference would be to buy from an individual.

There certainly are good reputable used car lots out there...but the cost of the vehicle will necessarily be increased.

I bought a '97 with 100,000 on it (perfect shape, no lockers) from a lot in Houston for 12,975 drive out.

I had looked at several others for about the same price.

Just make sure to have someone knowlegable look at the vehicle before you purchase it, and GET ONE W/LOCKERS. My only regret.

CSA, I have also been looking in Socal for a similar vehicle. Don't worry about the lot vs. private party issue, just take the vehicle to a reputable shop for an inspection before you buy it.

As far as the price goes, that seems about what I've seen also. Good luck!

That is not true here, Farmers insurance, Arizona. My brother just bought a '96 Cruiser, his agent quoted a much higher price than mine, something about Lexus owners being historically safer drivers. Called my agent, he changed my policy to a '96 cruiser and Farmer's price is the same.

In my search the LX450 was about $2000 cheaper. I still buy Toyota parts from C-Dan for it. I replaced the softer ride for an OME lift. The CD Changer and built in subwoofer is nice.

Make sure what ever you do you get lockers. That was one of my key criteria. I did a search of both 80's and LX450's and picked the best one the meet my criteria; Lockers, no rust, no leaks, passes Christo's inspection sheet.

Good luck

There is a 1997 Lc with 130k in Abilene, Texas at the Nissan Lot. One owner Window paint says $12,995 No lockers

I bought a 97 Lx 450 for $14500 in Dallas three weeks ago 83k lockers

Looks like you just answered your own question. :flipoff2:

Seriously dude, prices fluctuate quite a bit around the country. So it depends on if you buy local or ship in. Hard to compare one to the other though unless you can actually see both.

BTW, it's worth it to stay away from the Lexi just due to the fact that Romer has one. :flipoff2:

I found the same to be true also. My insurance agent said it was because all LX's came with an alarm so they are stolen less.

I feel the love Mikey, was begining to think you didn't care anymore :flipoff2:

Prices definetly vary wildly around the country. The cheapest Cruisers and LX450's I've seen have been from NJ & NY...but maybe the worst areas for them too? (salt, rust, etc)...wait a second isn't Junky from NJ, that cheap bastard!! :flipoff2:

Yup. Buggerville is in squat NJ. :flipoff2:

Cheapest I've seen are here in my area. Then again I've helped about 8 of them get exported over the last 2 years. Not too many 80's left in my town. Lots of 100's, but folks are now going Gwagons more.

FWIW, in Southern Idaho prices are quite a bit higher - I paid $16800 for a 97 LX450 with 82K and lockers, from an individual. I have seen others priced the same or higher, with higher miles and with and without lockers. I have also seen LC's with more miles (a lot more miles) for almost the same money, so regional influences do play a big role.
