To answer two-for-one. There is not a machine in existence that cannot be broken by a determined operator. There is some rough country up there. I nearly rolled my truck on Poland Road when it was covered with ice. I came within a few inches of dropping the rig upside-down, fifty feet into the creek with my wife and child in the truck. They were not happy. I nearly rolled the truck. That would have been less than popular with my family! They tend to get upset when the truck is tumbling out of control. I try to avoid those situations in order to promote family unity. Keeping the wheels on the bottom seems to be important to my wife. As I respect her opinion, I will do my best. It's been close a few times. I'll try to keep the wheels down. I don't mind so much! My best girl prefers to have the truck right side up. It has been rolled once, and that is enough! Two rollovers on one truck might be excessive. We'll try to be nice! We will do our best.

Thanks to Brian for all the kudo's. Cass and I went out Walker rd. and came back over Mt. Union since that was the last place everyone else went just to see it. Of course I took a wrong turn at the bottom and instead of Poland junction ended up on on Big Bug Mesa road and back on walker rd. That will teach me not to take my maps. Bill and Brian figured out all the improvements that need to be made to the diesel chugger very quickly so to the drawing board.

You did not turn wrong, except that you failed to tell me that you were going! There are very few wrong turns in the Bradshaws. Every place that you go is incredible! That is why we live here!

On that same hill a couple years ago, We were there for hours, because of a broken down FJ55. We were on a TLCA run near maverick Mt. and it was late in the day. This 55 was making a strong attempt to get up the hill when started bouncing and on the second bounce we all heard the snaps. He broke his front driveshaft, and his rear pinion shaft. That sucked because not only did he not have front wheel drive, but the pinion gear minus the shaft part was able to fall back in the diff and jam up the diff gears. That was a long night. I don't want to knock anybody off their high horse, but LC's do break on the trail. Not nearly as often as the J**ps do. I will strongly agree that our drivetrain is far superior, but to say LC's do not break is not realistic. I've broken 2 locking hubs, 1 front axle shaft, and I've even had a fan blade break off and stick in my radiator. That was on my '72. So things are bound to happen when parts get that old and worn. Now this jeep that broke on the trail last Sunday was an '06, with low miles. So jeeps are weak, but Landcruisers are not invincible.;)
Howdy! I be that FJ55 that blew up everything. The main reason I had that problem was that I was trying to strap a busted FJ40 up the hill behind me. He had gernaded a Warn hub earlier in the day. He had no lockers, and he was trapped at the bottom of the hill. Without the extra two tons of dead weight bouncing on the end of my strap, I don't think I would have had any trouble with that hill. I did not really want to try pulling him, but the other rigs in our group had already topped the climb, and they did not want to come back down. As mentioned, my rear diff was in perma-park with the pinion gear wedged between the ring and the housing. The front DS was actually fixed on the spot by reassembling the slip joint. Unfortunately, I had also gernaded a Birf. I upgraded to Bobby Long's Birfs and axle shafts in the front, and I fabbed up a very strong anti-wrap bar for the rear. But, I would never try to pull anyone up that hill again. I would offer to give him a ride into town to find another hub. Even then, he may have been ill equipped for that particular hill. Actually, I had to abandon the Piggy that night, even after all that work trying to patch it up. I went back two days later with a nicely equipped 80 series. He gutted the Birf, much faster than I could, and then we winched the PIggy towards the top of the hill. Unfortunately, he trashed his winch controls, and so then we strapped it the rest of the way up. He had to hit the strap so hard that I could see daylight under all 4 tires when he hit the end of it. That was the day that I became a true believer in the ability of the 80's. My snatchem strap never broke before he got me out, but it was so beat up that it was rigid like a 2x4. I've never seen that happen before, or since. John

For some reason I thought you were busy or something. My humblest apologies. :whoops: The following day we did a little elk scouting about 40 miles out Williamson Valley Rd. Possibly in Walnut Canyon (Not sure, once again no map) Very pretty place nothing that requires four wheel drive. Although I did manage to push a tire into a front fender. I guess the 33 12.50's are a little too big for the stock suspension. Nothing I can't adjust with a die grinder.

I had forgotten about you pulling someone else up. That was many moons ago. I have revisited that hill with my 60, and had to be pulled the final stretch by Brad again. Then when I took my 80 up it with just the rear locker it went right up. Those 80's are amazing. Or maybe I just hit the right line. Have you been back up that trail lately? It's getting harder as the years go by.

Howdy! My wife still wheels with me often, but she has forbidden me from EVER running Maverick Mtn again. We both remember that event a little too well, I think, even though it was in the fall of 2000. You must be the fine fellow that gave us a ride down the mountain in the dark to meet Brad at the Senator Hwy. I remember my wife rode shotgun, and I had to stand up in the back and hold onto the rollbar, as you has a lot of gear with you. Seems like I ended up with an extra jack handle in the back of the 55. Maybe I can drop it off sometime, as I am in Prescott visiting family fairly often. John

It isn't my jack handle, but I did find a hi-lift main shaft thing laying in the road a couple years ago. Not too much longer and we might come across enough pieces to make it work! I know Cody has an inoperable high lift we might be able to snag pieces from:)

Howdy! Hang onto it. I hear they make a great tierod brace. Ya just never know when somebody might need it. John

Howdy! OK, I'll keep the jack handle, but it's for an OEM type. So, did we ride down the mountain in the dark in your FJ40? John

I was trying to get in touch with Cody and I have noticed he hasn't been on this or any other board that we both visit in a few weeks. Do you know if he is OK?

Thanks,
Dave

That is what I have been wondering! Cody is usually late for Prescott Cruiser Saturday, but he is always at IHOP sooner or later. He missed July when I was gone, and again in August. I've teased him about July, as he has always been supportive. I have had no response. He rarely misses a chance to meet and play with other Cruiserheads. This is not normal!
I'll make a point of going to check within 24 hours! He is not far away. I am off tomarrow, and now I have a quest other than the bank and DMV! I'll check on Cody and report.

I am reporting; no response at Cody's front door, or by phone. I will keep trying.
The next Prescott Cruiser meet is on Sept. 20, one week ahead of the Fossil Creek club cleanup weekend. Everyone who can make it should be at the camp at Fossil Creek to help to clean the area of litter. There is a booby prize for the most litter collected! If you collect the largest chunk of trash, you may be recognized in camp as a hero! That's what it is all about. We are the trash patrol!

Hey guys...

Sorry I've been out of the loop for awhile... I've been going through a lot of personal and work stuff lately that has been kinda rough and I've been trying to get that all straightened out.

I haven't had too much time for the various forums, especially since I just got one of these and have been breaking it in...

Most of the stuff I'm working on is getting wrapped up, so I should be able to get back into my forum whoring soon.

Cruiser Saturday is next week, Sept 20. Be there and invite some uninitiated newby. We need someone to harass! If you are eating, show up early so that we can be outside by 10:00 or 10:15. Let's go driving this month, instead of just standing around jawing! June was great fun, let's do it again.

If all goes according to plan, I will be off work that Sat. Any ideas for the trail ride? I am partial to running turkey creek again. Starting @ Bumble Bee and coming all the way up Peck Canyon to Senator Highway. It's a close trail with some difficulty.

You didn't make it 971. Instead try this weekend. We are all going to Fossil Creek to pick up trash. Contact me at 277-6622 to caravan about 4:00 Friday afternoon. We'll camp all weekend with the Toyo Trail team. Forest service will be there.

Looks like October 18 is the third Saturday. I will be there. It is a bit sooner than I expected.
I may not be prepared. That can't be helped. But I will wheel the truck if anyone will join me.
A full tank of gas and a mountain road. This is a beautiful thing. I'll see you all at IHOP!

Oct. 18th

Well fellow cruiser folks. Elk Season is upon us so we will not be there on the 18th. Cass has a cow tag in the block unit so we will be wheeling, but with an agenda. I have done a few small mods to the Troopie. I know everyone spells that with a "y" , but my 28 reads "TROOPIE".

I have managed to put an FJ40 tube style tire carrier and a custom recieiver hitch on it so things are progressing. The steering and suspension are next.
