I just did this conversion today. Two tips:
1. Some of the wires go to 2 places so read through the wiring chart and be aware so you don't have to redo anything. IIRC hey are whit w/black tracers.

2. You need different mounting brackets for most aftermarket radios.

Which brackets are you talking about? Can you include the part numbers for the thread? I have a 2002 LC and I had to use some new brackets and I listed the part numbers for my model.

I am calling the dealer for brackets tomorrow so I am not sure what PN I will end up with. Most likely the ones you listed. I was trying to say that the oem brackets on the factory nav won't work on an aftermarket receiver.

Aloha from Hawaii guys, Thank you TXSunDevil and others for putting in the hard work and sharing. Do you know if this is possible on a 03 and up? I have an 03 and would love to be able to do this. Thank you in advance.

Howdy,

Welcome to Mud, I was out in the islands a few months ago. I saw many Toyota pickups but not too many Cruisers. Beautiful place but a long way from home for me.

I am not an expert on this but in 2003 the stereo and navigation was completely changed. You would have to check the FSM on a 2003 Land Cruiser and see if they list the wiring options for NAV and Non-NAV. This is how the FSM is for the 2002. That gave me the confidence to do the swap. I do think it would be possible but I believe sourcing the parts would be a challenge. Car-part.com shows a controller for an 03 non-NAV Cruiser but you will need to be sure. I had a lot of trouble communicating with the folks at the junkyard. It is a pretty tough business. You would need to find a climate control from a Non-NAV 2003. @RobRed has shared some of the stereo info in his link on his posts.

Thank you for the welcome and reply. I hope you enjoyed your visit to Hawaii. I currently live on Oahu but I grew up on Maui. Toyota does seem to be Hawaii’s favorite brand.

I have read RobRed’s posts, man that guy is awesome. He did a bunch of work on this and I for one truly appreciate it. Thank you for the information and I guess I’ll keep searching. Aloha!

I just completed this install. It was not too bad it just took more time than I hoped. I spent about 3.5 hours last night making all the terminations and prepping the harnesses. Today I spent about 3 hours attempting to tidy up all the wires and install the new stereo head unit.

I started with the pinout guide @primeral provided. I went through it box by box with my FSM and I had a few additional wires. I printed it out and wrote them in. I did catch an error in the FSM on terminal A9. The pinout guide is right but the FSM has it wrong on one page. I do not know how to modify and upload the pdf but here is a photo.

I plan to start tackling this tonight, my only question so far is what are the Letters and Numbers that you wrote down on the lower right side for?

If you look in the FSM the plugs are called C6-C9 etc but they are also labeled with a corresponding letter A-I. I pulled the plugs and labeled them with a sharpie

I'm trying to do the cross check with the Service Manual, I have the soft back 2 volume set. Did your page numbers happen to be from a PDF? Otherwise, the page numbers aren't matching up for me.

No I have the Factory Electrical Manual.

Oh dang, didn't realize that existed. I need to find a PDF of that it sounds like.

This is what's in the Repair Manual, I wonder if it's the same information?

I am sure they are the same. I have included some shots of the electrical manual. The electrical manual shows the connector end whereas your manual is showing the ECU end so they are mirrored. The electrical manual includes schematics. I will be online most of the morning and I can post anything from the manual this AM if it helps.

Looks like I'll mostly have to just use the updated spreadsheet that you posted a picture of in lieu of having the wiring manual as the service manual isn't nearly as complete. Could you possibly post the "E" terminal? I can't find that one in the service manual. Also, when you wrote E8 twice in a couple of boxes, was that to designate you did a three way there?

"E" is C20. It is the plug that runs to the 3 knob controller. I did have to do 2- 3 way connections I also tied into the Dimmer circuit for my new stereo. I don't remember if I chronicled that or not. Don't forget these photos are from the connector end.

I think "E" C20 is what came out of the Clock/Rear Heater/Antenna control on the bottom of the old Nav unit, thanks for the picture of that, I think I should be good to start cutting now. Fingers crossed.

I'll update the Excel spreadsheet and post it for the next round of guys who try this.
