My pump is dripping from the connection pointed out in the picture. Is that small (10mm or 12mm) bolt the only thing that holds this union together? and if so what is in there thats leaking? If I sit and watch I can see a pretty constant drip from the head of the bolt. Is it a compression fitting or an o-ring or something else in there?

Thanks in advance.

yes, that bolt holds the fitting in place, and there is an o-ring sealing the pipe

AAhhh, perfect. That is what I needed to know. Thanks.

I just replaced that small o-ring a week ago, cleaned the area once right after the first start up, dry as a bone since. It's important to remove the old o-ring completely of course but also to lube the new o-ring (I used a thick silicone grease) before you slide it in place and to be careful not to damage it when you put the suction tube back into the pump.

Yes, it fits in a groove at the end of the pipe that inserts into the pump.

That"s what I did and it's still leaking! I made sure the O ring had fluid on it but I did not use grease. I think it's worse now than before I "fixed" it.

I'll run it up to temperature a few times and reevaluate.

I used a thick silicone grease (not wheel bearing grease) but only enough to cover the o-ring, not a glob of it. No reason that ATF wouldn't work. My guess is the o-ring got pinched or is out of place; could it be the wrong size?? I sprayed a good amount of a quick dry solvent on the pipe and pump afterward so that I'd be able to spot any new leaks.

I ordered it from toyota. It fit snugly over the tube but it wasn't impossible to get on.

I'm kind of baffled. I thought it would be a quick fix.

pkelly72; The o-ring sits in a groove; IIRC that groove is closer to the tip of the pipe that inserts into the pump. The o-ring I got from Toyota actually fit a bit loosely which concerned me at first. I'd check the part number to be sure they gave you the correct part. I'm not an o-ring expert but from reading I've learned that o-rings are designed to "float" a bit inside the groove they reside in; when the pressure is applied in the system it presses the o-ring against the slight opening between the mating surfaces which forms the seal. FWIW.
