I’ve had a leak coming from my low pressure line for quite some time on my 91 FJ80. I had order a used “working” set from CruiserParts.net but upon installation, they had a leak in them as well. So CruiserParts sent me out another used “working set”. Now the second set did not leak, but I’m sure these are getting ready to start leaking as well since the rubber is looking really dry.

So I ended up having them rebuilt by a local Hose company that specializes in rubber hosing and fittings.

My questions: what has been your experience with sourcing new power steering lines? Availability easier for FZJ80s?

I bought factory hoses.

Yes, expensive, but the first set lasted 16 years.

I guess I'm coming up close to needing them again..... I replaced them 13 years ago.....

Rein hoses been in my truck 2 years without a drip. If I recall the hose itself was Japanese and same manufacturer as the OEM.

Keep in mind that the OP has a 3FE, not a 1FZ. The PS hose/cooler assembly for the 3FE (44410-60200) is long gone.

If the hard lines are in decent shape, then the high pressure side can be replaced by a hydraulic shop. For the low pressure sides you can use any fuel/oil rated hose (McMaster-Carr - https://www.mcmaster.com/) in the proper ID. Try to source constant tension hose clamps.

Follow the factory routing and be sure to position the PS box soft lines as far away from the alternator external fan as possible. Those lines will flex during hard use and the engine will move on the mounts. It's not fun repairing one on the side of the road in the dark when it finally lets go.

Great tip!

Thank you for that.

I actually had my set rebuilt. Because you’re right, brand new sets are pretty much long gone. And I had not found any aftermarket suppliers.

I actually have 2 more used sets that I plan to have rebuilt and offer to anyone interested. I’m wondering how many 3FE 80 series owners out there are in need.

Just finished my FZJ with a Rein hose today. Pretty easy, only mistake was to fix the hose ends prior to setting the screw at the U. I used a Tekton 17mm Claw Foot and it was fine.
