The engine is a short block v8 Chev. I do some desert travelling and not too serious rock crawling.

If you have a chebby, sagniaw is going to be the easist imo. FJ60 would also be pretty simple to do.

On my 65 with a V8 I put a Saginaw pump with a factory FJ40 power steering box from a 79. You’ll need to cut the original one piece steering column and weld an adapter at the end. You could also use a mini truck box. There are lots of helpful material on the conversion here on mud. It’s an upgrade worth the effort for sure. My FJ45 almost feels like a modern car, almost 😅

Minitruck and 40 factory boxes are becoming impossible to find, or way expensive. I'd recomend a more common route.

4x4labs makes a great mount , Redhead makes a good steering box

electric is an option
^ this. Hearing good things about this. @wngrog has some info on this and run time. Way simpler conversion cab side. Not engine bay. If it’s light duty use it makes good sense.

I'm thinking I need to start collecting and hoarding 1 piece steering boxes. For each one being cut for p/s makes an unmolested one more valuable.
