Here is one Bruce and I spotted near 100 Mile House on way back up to Moberly after Cruiser Days 2005.

I spotted that at a rest area outside of Reno, Nevada on my way back from the 45-run. It was about 2 a.m. and I had to cross over the middle of the freeway to come back and verify that I wasn't dreaming...

The license number is the same, you can't see it in this lo-rez doctored photo, but it's legible in the original .

Mine!

Been looking for a while, time to introduce myself.

My name's Guille, and I live in Arequipa, Peru (South America ;) )

My LC is an HZJ70. Not so modified yet, just home-made snorkel, rook-rack, front bumper (kindda copied from somewhere, don't ask). Future work: new tires (Cooper STT's, 33x12.50 at least)... and a loooooong list of more... :)

A not insignificant amount of suspension lift... it used to be 5 inches, it's since sagged a lot!... I'm looking at a new set of TJM XGS Suspension shortly as I don't want the OME stuff from ARB. I'm good mates with the TJM dealer here and he says if I don't get 5 years of solid trail running outta the TJM Stuff, he'll replace whatever breaks free of charge :)

Bullbar is being replaced with a TJM T-13-something winch bar to mount a 15,000 lb TJM Ox Winch. I can't justify spending the extra 1000 dollars on a Warn as I'll use it once a month at the absolute most. Probably more like once every 3 months.

Adding another two lights on the roof to make 6, even though you can't see any in this photo. There will be two IPF driving lights in the new bullbar to making a total of 10 forward facing lights, of which 4 are converted to HID. (which if you go bush a lot at night, I can't recommend enough).

There's a couple, soon to be 3 of Bond Ultimate batteries with 950 CCA under the bonnet. They're rated at 750, but we tested them at Bond and they came up at 948 CCA. They come with warranties to start tractors (the farm kind) for christs sake!

Snorkel is on the way, will be fitted when the 1uz-fe goes in and mated to my new LPG Mixer. This doubles as making the rig affordable, the exhaust dumps out either side as you can see if you look really closely and this setup will be retained. Once the new 1uz is in, we're expecting around 360hp-390hp @ the flywheel with the exhaust and intake and otherwise stock 1uz and around 425 ft. lb of torque. (I just did conversions from metric, so they might be a little off!).. 275kw and 570 Nm...

There's other things happening to the rig, i'm building a custom drawer box for the back. It came stock with a rollcage as all 73 series in Australia ... so on.

And yes, those are 33x12.5x15 Coopers STT's.... which I love to death. They handle awesome ON road too.

Entaran, are those uni-strut roofrack mounts? How much weight have you loaded on the FRP lips through the roofrack? Maybe you can post your reply to this thread, then I will delete this post: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=89512

Thanks

Entaran, is that a quarry near Ballarat?
The white clay looks familiar but not that particular place.
About TJM v's OME springs, what do you have against the OME jobs?
I think the Dakars will provide much better travel in a shorty like your car, you're not going to be loading it up too much are you? the dakars are far cheaper than the Aussie-made OME leaves, I'm very happy with mine. I assume you're talking about Phil Cairns in Ballarat, those guys are top fellas, I have spent at least $15K there in the last couple of years, pretty good service. I'm not impressed with TJM leaves though, I have a set that I bought from phil on my ute and they are pretty average. i believe TJM and OME coils are both made by the same factory ( King Springs ) so no problem there.
My Ox 10K winch has been pretty good, much cheaper than a Warn and mine still runs fine where my mate's Warn is stuffed after trips through the same deep mud-holes. They do seem to be exactly the same as some of the cheapo chinese ones, maybe the same with a different sticker on them, maybe not. The 15K one is Huge!

Yeah, that is the quarry out Enfield way. I am going with the TJM suspension over the OME stuff simply because Jason offered me that awesome warranty. I have nothing against OME, I actually have an OME steering shock. My ARB vs TJM stuff pretty much boils down to whenever I go into BOR (Ballarat Off Road) and because i'm only 21, they ignore me as another dreamer. Whereas up at Central Vic 4x4 I get good service and good advice.

The quality of the part is not in question, ARB and TJM both make excellent parts. The only ARB thing i would get in every case is the diffs, but I've already got a front LSD and rear locker so it's irrelevant for me.

I think I will get the 12k winch rather than the 15k winch as the bullbar to suit is much less protrusive which is better for a rig like mine in that I intend to do trail and forest work rather than head into the great outback. 73's just do not carry enough fuel to do the long long trails. My friends pajero has a warn winch on it and it really has not performed very well over the time they have had it. The cable is rooted and the motor is nowhere near as strong as it was. It isn't very old either, hence why i am willing to try the ox winch.

I actually do load my suspension up heavily rather frequently. The car carrys BIG loads and tows BIG trailers on frequent occasions, hence why I am not looking at "halfway" measures.

...

The roofrack is Rhino. I've had 235kg or so on it, but I would not travel with more than 150 on it. I had to put some rubber directly under the centre crossbrace of the rack as it flexes under load and "taps" on the roof creating an annoying noise.

Nice rig. You'll love the 1UZ, I just put one in my LJ71.
I dunno much about LPG systems but you might be a touch hopeful on the power. A standard 1UZ is under 190kW. A mate of mine has a similar setup to me in a hilux: 2 1/2" headers, big air filter, tuned Link ECU & he got 215 kW at the wheels on a dyno that is well known for it's optimism.

Cheers

The 1UZ i'm buying is freshly rebuilt and was engine dyno'ed at 244KW as is. Effectively stock.

Once I have the headers on either side (3 inch) which dump infront of the rear wheels and the intake, I shouldn't be losing much in terms of @ wheels power. Then given that 1uz's are actually stock tuned for 89 octane, you can ramp up the timing 2-3 degrees and grab another 10 KW. :)

She'll be heaps better than the 3F in any case. Even if it'll probably be louder. I could care less about noise :)

Awesome. The 1UZ's love a big exhaust. Our big Jeep's got 3" headers into a 4" tailpipe with no muffler (she's offroad only) & it pulls harder than than any other stock lexus I've experienced.
I've got sidepipes too, they sound glorious but it's a bit droney on the highway. I think I'll join them up & run them out the back eventually. With the MWB you might be able to fit a little more muffling down the sides.

Cheers
Clint

Bj 73 - 1986 - Mwb

Hi there all

Posting some pictures of my BJ 73 MWB (Australia)

Originally fitted with a 3b diesel - but meet its fate while the wife was driving and cooked the engine. I bought a wrecked 60 series cruiser and transferred the running gear.

Its now fitted & registered with a 2h (6 cylinder - 4lt engine), 5 speed manual gearbox, fitted with fairy over drive - the over drive splits all the gears.

ARB Front scrub & side bars - fitted with 9000 lb Warn winch, 33" BFG All Terrains tyres. Also fitted, as with all BJ73's in Australia an internal roll bar. Inbuilt aircompressor (belt driven) and snorkel

Soon to be fitted ARB diff locks - already purchased just havent had the time to install.

I hope you like the pictures.
