Hello All,
I've had my rebuilt engine (2F with chevy valves and oversized pistons) in the 60 for ~2500 miles now. After 500 miles, I swapped the oil and checked the valve clearances. I was planning on doing another oil change now, along with a new oil pan as the drain plug just won't seal. These are a few items that come to mind:

1. Recheck timing (currently running 8° advance with Jim C distributor and Sniper).
2. Check head bolt torque
3. Tighten all coolant hoses
4. Recheck valve clearances

Feedback welcome on the above list as to what's needed and what is not or if I've missed anything.

Cheers, James

Snug up manifold nuts/bolts, timing cover and side cover bolts

Don"t "recheck" head bolt torque, but back off the bolt 1/4 turn and re-torque it. Each bolt separately according to the torque sequence drawing in the manual. All of them. Thats how it alway should be done - for each head bolt.

There is too much friction/stiction inherent in a previously torqued bolt to be able to gauge if its a bit non-tight or not.

Yes, and understood, thanks for the feedback. I should have been clearer in my description.

That's a good list. Obviously, visually check for leaks and/or weeping. Put a wrench on every bolt/nut you can see and just check for tightness. That goes for grounds and wires and transmission mounts, etc.

Use a good high zinc oil, quality filter. Change oil often the first 5K-10K miles.
