Ran across this on theToyota press-site...even though it is initially for the Tundra, the last paragraph caught my attention:

"Initially, the TRD Performance Package will be offered on new Tundras. Toyota is considering expanding the package to other models in the near future, while also working to offer a dealer–installed option for customers that already own Tundras and are looking for a factory-backed way to crank up the power. "

I saw that press release. The hybrid max jump is pretty impressive also. Must be a few more tweaks on that side. Very out of character for Toyota to do. I'd assume it'll at a minimum be offered on the Sequoia. But that just pushes it further ahead in performance from the LX so I'd guess they'll have to offer something on that side of the house as well.

Question 2: Can you buy the same tune for the SR trim Tundra? Like you could aftermarket tune the IS300 to just use the factory IS350 tune and have the same vehicle for a lot less $. If not from Toyota I'm sure it'll be available aftermarket pretty quick.

I'm curious how much power these are really good for. I think the turbos are not sized to make a lot more peak hp.

Edit: $3400 is a lot for more noise and 30hp. That's about the same price as the hybrid upgrade. Seems like it's mostly targeted at the hybrids then because it wouldn't make a lot of sense to buy the package over the hybrid at the same price that has a lot better performance.

It's a no brainer that Toyota is going to TRD-ify their Land Cruiser product, it's an offroad trim level that touches everything else 4WD in the lineup and will pad margins even more. Likely similar to 4Runner, they will run coveted colors under the TRD trim level as well

TRD is brilliant marketing scam that charges thousands of dollars for hundreds of dollars worth of meh accessories. And they can't build them fast enough.
Agreed. For last 2 decades it’s always been a better move to buy stock base trim and add acc of your choosing. But then you gotta do work so the easy button is appealing to the 96%

For me the warranty does have value for engine tunes. That's one of the few that I'd pay more for factory warranty on. But I also wouldn't pay $3400 for a 30hp tune. For comparison Ford charges $800 for a +45hp OEM tune. Chevy charges $395 for a +40hp tune with factory warranty. That sounds a lot more reasonable to me. Toyota is off by an order of magnitude on the price here.

$3400 includes air intakes and exhaust as well the tune. Combined it’s still very expensive for what it is but at least a better deal than tune alone. I wonder if they will allow purchasing the tune alone for a much lower cost, something more inline with ford/gm/aftermarket.

I'm a little curious what the point of all that stuff is. 30hp isn't much more. Probably doesn't need exhaust or intake changes. And Toyota already has fake engine noise that you can't turn off. Louder exhausts are obnoxious to own and drive. I'd pass on that either way. But I really don't understand the point of doing it when it's not even an exhaust you can hear. Maybe it's a virtual "cat back" exhaust that just uploads a different sound profile to the fake exhaust noise.

I don’t really understand the point of a TRD exhaust when it’s mated to a V6. If it was a V8, then that makes sense, but with a V6 I would want to be as quiet as possible so it doesn’t remind me that I don’t have a V8 under the hood.

The thought of a 2 stepping turbo Yota with a blowoff valve makes my pants tight.
