I bought a 2021 landcruiser about a year ago. This makes #4 or #5 over the last 20+ years, huge fan.

I walked by it the other night in the garage (hours after driving it) and it sounded like the electric fuel pump was running. Noise was best heard at passenger rear of car.

I jumped in it, cranked it up, ran for a few minutes, shut it off and the noise didn’t come back.

Is that normal that the fuels pump (guess here) could come on when it is not running?

No such thing as a dumb question sir.

I’ve never had that occur on my 2020 with an LRA 40gal tank.

Do you have any aftermarket accessories installed on your 2021? Auxiliary fuel tank/fuel pumps, etc?

Just trying to troubleshoot.

If you could take a video of it with your smartphone that would be ideal sir.

Sure, will try to catch in the act. She is bone stock(for now).

Just really odd….couldn’t even form a guess on it being anything else.

It could be your evap system cycling. This does make some noise to generate pressure in the fuel system to check for insidious leaks, check valves, etc. if no check engine lights, performance, or fueling issues I wouldn’t worry about it.

For clarity, the evap system I’m talking about is the OEM one. The LRA fuel pump does make a ticking type sound, but I haven’t heard the evap pump cycle myself.

My thoughts anyways.

You guys could be right, she drives perfectly. Just curious….

My guess is evap system. I have a '20 and had the same thing happen recently. Did some research and slept soundly. 🤓

Definitely the EVAP leak pressure-check. I’ll bet it was parked for around 5 hours when you heard it.

Evap system more than likely. Best practice, when filling your gas tank at the pump, stop when it clicks off. Don't keep trying to pump every last drop into your tank. That is a very common mistake owners of all types of vehicles make which will lead to early Evap system failures.

Normal. My 21 does it as well. EVAP/emissions related.

Mt '13 Taco does it "all the time."
Drove me crazy at first.
Haven’t heard it on my LC, yet

Haven’t heard this on My 2010 LC but my 2010 Prius did it ALL the time and was LOUD, drove me bonkers but is 100% normal

You guys just solved the mystery with my RX350, thanks!

Love this forum.

Awesome, thanks for quick feedback. I don’t ever remember hearing it on my 2008, but can’t say I ever paid close enough attention to notice.
