Hi!
I'm hunting for an affordable alternative to stock wheels that have some of the same feel. Doesn't have to be a perfect look alike, but the idea is more to recapture the essence...

I've tried sourcing the OEM wheel from Toyota. Called on PN# 4260160082, which they said was the only wheel they had listed in their system for the FJ40.
Quantity 0 in the USA, which is bummer since they were only priced at $110 ea.

SO:
I found these guys at Les Schwab. They seem to have some of the chrome-but-not-bling feel of the originals, and similar shapes / lines. Am I off my rocker?

So, my questions:

1. My truck is gonna run 33/1050/15s in the BFG AT flavor. Thinking about a 7 inch wide wheel so that the pinch isn't too tight, but so that it doesn't produce a big bulge, either. Is this a good size?

2. Do either of these wheel options (both about 100 bones USD) get you excited?
:bounce:

3. If not, what might you suggest I do? I just can't afford shelling out big bucks for the originals at this time.... and I know they come on Mud from time to time, but the tires I have on my rig are 10 years old and give me the willies to drive around on....

Thanks in advance for any input... constructive, destructive, whatever!

Cheers,
Guy

There are BUNCHES of the OEM wheels left.....

I picked up 4 of the disc wheels for $50 and another 4 less than that.

Ditto the white spokers if you want cheap wheels. The later fj40s had white wheels from the factory, at least here in the USSA. The main thing is get the proper back space which is 3.5"

Hmm. Thanks for all the responses. No one seemed to want to comment on the cosmetics of those wheels.
Que sera, sera.

Looks like a pretty resounding "get off your hinder-parts and find some OEM wheels." :D
Also, folks seem to have STRONG feelings about white spokes. Many recommend, yet other file under "worst mod ever done to my cruiser."

Personally, I think they look pretty nice, so that's an option as well.

Fortunately, someone was kind enough to PM me with a possible source of the OEM wheel. I'll call tomorrow.

Thanks all.

Black rockcrawlers. You'll want them eventually.

I was given a set of late FJ40/early FJ60 white spokes years ago that had the bald, original factory tires, including inner tubes, mounted on them. Always hated the look of white spokes, they just scream mid 70's Chevy truck to me. Painted them black and they look so much better. I had 35's put on them with good results. The 7" rim acts like a poor mans beadlock when the tire is aired down and I never get dirt in the bead anymore. I'm sure someone has a set of these out there for cheap. Good luck!

FJ Cruiser steelies bolt up nicely but require a spacer, $50 bucks each on eBay

If you ask the dealer, sometimes they have new car take offs

Doc

Any pics of what these look like?

Thanks,
ML

Hey look....I bought my OEM steel wheels from a guy here in Oregon for $25 each. I took them to a powdercoater who blasted and coated them for another $25 each. $50 a wheel and they look new. And now I get to sport the super sweet reproduction early cruiser hubcaps that some crazy dude is selling here on Mud. https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-seri...iser-hubcap-not-available-soon-available.html

If you want me to I can check to see what my guy has for wheels. I think he had a bunch more for the same price.

Hot wheels

i'm torn between 90's model Toyota Taco rims (painted white), and Pacer white wagons.
the taco rims look good, but need at least 1/2" spacers for the front.

...So i have both of 'em on right now lol

hope you enjoy the poser pic

I purchased a set of chrome FJ60 wheels for $100. I painted them cygnus white to match the top on my 1980 FJ40. The plan is to install a set of BFG 33-inch mud terrains on these wheels.

yes pls i'll even pay shipping

Raven: The picture in your original post look like Chevy Rally wheels. White spokes rock on the FJ 40 for the early aftermarket look. I don't like the white wheels on a white cruiser. My .02
