I see conflicting reports all the time. How fast can you safely hold your rig on the road?

are we talking safe, comfortable traveling speeds here? Say you are going across your state to an event... What continuous top speed do you really maintain?

Have a 78 FJ 40, with my pedal buried to the floor it gets up to about 65mph. Don't know how fast if we were going down hill! Still have stock 2F which has had one rebuild from the previous owner.
I have come to enjoy life in the slow lane with some poor fuming sucker who has not learned to take life easy for awhile behind me.

Here's the page on the Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage site where the 1960's TV advertisment claims you can cruise "85mph all day long" on the open road with the F135 powered FJ40.
I have no doubt that's true. I certainly make that easily in my truck, although it's most comfortable in the longer wheel based FJ45.
That said, there's what you can do, and what you should do, and Andrew is correct that it really doesn't feel safe to go that fast in an FJ40.
