Ok this is my second cruiser. First one was built but I was young and didn't pay much attention to how the old man built it up mostly. This is the first one I am going to go balls out on.

This is a 74 with the 4 speed. Fresh 2f motor.

Question 1 - Will the offsett transfer work with a centered 9". The 9 is offset a little but not much if I remember correctly.

Question 2- What spring rate/leangth seems to be working best with the cruiser?

Question 3- Anyone have any experience with the Chrysler 9.25? I have the D44 front from that rig and the rear is free. Rear will be spooled up reguardless of what it ends up being.

Question 4- I have read up on the different 203 doubler configurations. From the guys that have done them, is it worth it or should I just go with a Atlas? I am just exploring all possibilities to get a 4:1 or so at the tcase.

Question 5- If I decide to stick with the LC rear axle would it be worth it to buy a set of wheel spacers adapters to convert to the 5 on 5.5 like the front 44?

I am in North Dakota right now and parts are very hard to come buy it seems. Well that and I hate the state and rarely leave the AFB......lol.

Oh and because threads without pics suck.

short term, yes...but ideally you center the t-case to match the pinion input

Spring Over conversion? Either FJ55 or 60/62 series rear packs at all 4 corners, or Waggie springs.

Yer installing the D44 in front? waste of money....no strength gain over a FJ40 disc front. See the Cruiser Tech FAQ's for a link to a discussion on axles and such. Also, stick with a "common" axle and not an oddball...wheeled with a guy recently running a front 10-bolt and his busted shaft ended his day when no one carried spares.

Question 4- I have read up on the different 203 doubler configurations. From the guys that have done them, is it worth it or should I just go with a Atlas? I am just exploring all possibilities to get a 4:1 or so at the tcase.

203 doubler is HEAVY and LONG....do a minitruck doubler or the new AA doubler for a shorter and lighter conversion with more long-term gear range options. Atlas is your best option, but not cheap...but if you do a centered rear axle, you may as well.

Question 5- If I decide to stick with the LC rear axle would it be worth it to buy a set of wheel spacers adapters to convert to the 5 on 5.5 like the front 44?

you want all your lugs to match patterns. Waggie D44 axles are 6-bolt setups and are a common/easy swap, but again you are stuck with the "arguably" marginal D44 over/under Cruiser debate.

Thanks woody.

I am beginning to think you are right about the Dodge front. It is disc but the disc's are incorperated with the hub assembly. POS, plus it is 5 on 4.5.....Guess i should have checked closer. Luckily it was free.

I read all the disc conversion stuff but I don't have those parts available......

Guess I will keep Looking and researching front and rear options......Got lots of other stuff to do until then anyway.

Thanks again.

yeah, best to keep all the same bolt patterns, so you don't have to carry two spares. d'oh!

I got all the parts (minus new bearings seals etc) I needed to do a disc convo to my 74 from a fellow ih8mud lister. Not to mention I got the larger fine spline birf, better lockouts and the large stud pattern on the steering arm to make hysteer easy.

Remember this ain't a Jeep, you don't have to get rid of every stock part to have a sweet wheelin truck.

well as a Former/Current Jeeper I guess I will have to work on that thinking.....

So can the rear stand up to a 38-39 inch tire. Well more importantly is can the front stand up to it.....I don't have or plan on any power upgrade past the stock 2f. I like to go slow and can easily let up on the stupid pedal (but I do like to get on it some)

Rear disc conversion is easy. Front has me kind of worried.......

Oh one more Question. If I do a SHackle reversal do I still need to do the Cut and turn? Got some info via a email that I would not need to do the cut and turn with a Shackle reversal........

if you SOA and do the SR, the cut-turn is damn near required.
if you SOA and leave the front shackle, the cut-turn is only recommended...lol
Either way, to properly add the additional caster that large diameter tires prefer, you need it done. People have done it without and it works...way too many opinions to agree, so just do it and don't worry...lol

My front axle has survived nicely with stock inner axles and Longfields with 38.5 tires and lots of rocks. I am installing 4340 inners tho for some added piece of mind.

The rear weakness is the pinion, a good wrap bar will control that, but it is still breakable. (I did mine in Moab even with the 4-link) Upgrade to a fine spline gearset and your fears lessen greatly.

Thanks woody. Good thing I signed up here That little bit of mis information might have screwed me up.

The cut and turn is not a big deal really. Just wanted to get away with as little work as possible.

TJDIV- Yah we have a Auto Hobby. I already poured through it pretty good. Hulbert? You Socom? I am a Army guy that is now National Guard and living with his AD wife here in Minot......

Minot sucks ass for sure. Went there one winter in a Buff from Barksdale :slap:

Anyway, get off you ass and head down to Rapid City, there is a great Cruiser shop and Dakota Cruisers is based out of there.

Black Hills wheeling is some of the best in the country.

Get off that s***hole base and have some fun!

BTW, what about this thread is Harcore?? ???

"happier" neighborhood around here grog ;)

It will take time, but you'll be better in the end.

duuuuuude its way easy, just rebuild the front knuckles substituting minitruck/79+ cruiser parts for the old parts. No biggie.

Why NOT? Minot. My brother was there for 3 years. Just moved down here when he got out. I was at Hurlburt for my entire term. AFSOC. It was a pretty decent station actually, can't complain.

Better than Minot? Don't know..never been, you got a beach? (I'm f*cking with you)

Watch out for cows.
