I’m trying to get my stater off my 1997 lx450,I have both bolts that hold the starter on to the motor loose ,and I have the negative cable off the battery . I’m now ready to take the nut off that holds the big wire on to the starter. I can’T get a socket to fit in side the flip open cap. I’m I supposed to be able to put a scocket in the flip open case with out taking the plastic off or do I have to take it apart some how? What size is that nut? Thanks I’m working on it now so “Help “ please

If nothing else, you can probably unbolt the starter and turn it for better access.

Unfortunately, the top of the flip-open cap on mine was already broken off. I don't recall any particular difficulty in freeing it. I had a much harder time finding the bolts holding the starter on under all the leaked oil (aka corrosion inhibitor). I'm finding a set of 3/8 wobble extensions to be very handy on the Land Cruiser, so I may have used them on the starter lug.

Did mine a couple of weeks back. Easy with the wobble heads like @gummycarbs said. My plastic cover broke also when I opened it but still had no issue getting a socket in there to unbolt the cable. I loosened mine up before unbolting the two larger bolts but ended putting it on and tightened first before putting the starter in place upon reinstall.

I taped the top part of the lug cover back on. Will replace it someday with something better.

Okay Thanks ,I got it off . it did fit inside around the plastic piece opening . Now I'm getting ready to put some new parts in ,if I ordered the right ones . Mine was a 13mm .

Flex sockets and crows feet.
