What was the prices for all the parts you used?

Nice. Simple but strong. I just put my spare on the rack so this will be next. Thanks for sharing photos.
 
I'd do the hook on the side of the center bar vs. the bottom- less chance of grabbing submerged/hidden stuff and easier to keep a strap on it

but otherwise, great solution for folks who don't run their spare underneath!
 
This is my plan precisely. I have a Reese Class III, but my frame holes are so rusted from my last hitch (originally from 92) that some of the bolts broke off inside the holes, the others are full of junk. So I can't use my perfectly good Reese Hitch (Anyone interested?) and this looks like just what I wanted to do!

How exactly did you do it? I see you welded right to the frame for the cross beam and then did something for the opening...
Those welds look like ARC, no?
