I thought it would be cool to start a thread showing 70's on the specific trails in Moab. Would give other owners an idea what trails they want to attempt. So a brief description of the vehicle and the trail would be great.

Mine is a 1989 JDM BJ74, OME lift w/ extended shackles, U-bolt flip in the front, ARB lockers front and rear with 4:56's gears, 35x12.5r16 Trxus M/T's w/ 1" wheel spacers. Keep in mind this is my daily driver and I drove it over 1000 miles to get there pulling a 1500lb trailer. So your not going to see anything to crazy

First Trail is Chicken Corners. Its a very mild scenic trail and stock friendly It has some great views and drives along some nice cliffs. Takes a good half day and comes back the way you went in.

Next I did the famous slick rock trail Hells revenge. I think its rated at a 6 on difficulty but really is not that bad if you bypass the major obstacles like Hells gate and the escalator. Its got some pretty steep hills but I found the worst part to be coming down the rocky hill at the end. Even that has a bypass if you prefer

We also did Fins and Things right after. The two trails combined take the best part of a day. Also lots of slickrock but shorter climbs and lots of steep ledges that could cause problems for vehicles with lots of overhang. Didnt get many pics on this trai though

I also did Elephant Hill in the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park. Its about 1.5 hours south of town to the trail head but totally worth the drive. This is my all time favourite trail for many reasons and the first time I actually used my lockers on the trip. The trail starts from a parking area and immediately goes up and over a large rock formation that is quite steep at times and has several tight switchbacks and narrow rocky ledges. Anything much longer then my BJ74 will actually have to nose in and back down one of the switchbacks. You'll know right away if this trail is to much for you

A very cool feature to this trail is the channels through the rock. Their is an awesome hike called Joint Trail about 15 minute drive off of the main trail loop. I highly recommend making the time to explore this area

I think the stairs are probably the half way point of the loop and at the end of the loop you leave the way you came over the big hill. Definitely takes a whole day by the time you get back to Moab.

For me Elephant hill was the limit for what I was willing to do in my daily driver a 1000 miles from home.

The closest I will ever get to this is when I drive through the bank drive through ( the ones with the concrete post on both sides ).
It can get pretty hairy sometimes. :)

LOL, its like when you drop your money at the Mcdonalds drive thru..... I am told an H1 Hummer squeaked through here after removing his mirrors.

really nice ! Moab is on my list...

what a beauty dude .. perfect wheelbase for wheeling .. how did it with the trailer ..?

Does great with my trailer on the flats and cruises nicely at 60-65mph but to be honest it is working way to hard in the hills. I don't recommend towing any more then 1500lbs with a BJ74 and even that's pushing it at times

Please keep the photos coming.......
For those of us who only drive our 70 Series to places like Walmart, it gives us hope for a better future. :)

Hmm. Haven't downloaded any of my cameras since returning home from our recent trip to Moab but I'll give you one I took with my iphone.

Behemoth60's BJ74 tackling Hell's Gate - Hell's Revenge trail.

Brief description of vehicle: basically stock. :p

Before it flopped.

It did not flop on the Gate, it was on another trail.

Towing with big rubber on hills would no doubt take some power out of her with that kind of weight,I towed my camper 1500lbs with 31" 3000klm and into high country and back, not high country by Canadian standards.
I specifically removed the 32" because of the hill driving, sitting 2600rpm on hwy, 100klm but made it little easier when climbing with the higher revs. A long trip with wife & daughter wondering why we didn't go on the trip in the 2yr old triton, my reply was anyone can do it with a new car, it's all class when you do it an cruiser, and memories will be forever.
