Running over to Mesa today in the wife's Highlander (just Southwest of the CSC meeting place) and heading South on Rural, I got flashed at an intersection for speed. It was 6:55am and no traffic to speak of.

Now that cameras have been out for several years and the statistics and general knowledge is better known, what happens now?

I know that speed cameras on the Freeways only get paid 20% of the time and most peple dont bother - but - does being at a traffic light in a city's jurisdiction vs state highway make a difference?

I dont deny that I was going a little quick but IMO it was safe and prudent in the situation and time of day. If I need to pay I will but if i ignore the photo ticket....?

Any thoughts or experience in this from anyone?

If you feel your speed was safe and prudent then go to court. Showing your speed was prudent given the conditions is the only way to beat a speeding ticket otherwise....and take your chances with the process server knocking on the door.

This assumes the Highlander is in both of your names.

A: Wait till you get it in the mail, then worry about it. It's relatively common to get flashed and not get the mail.

B: Who is the rig titled to, if it's the wife, she can go in and say, "that is not me" and the problem is solved.

Ive gotten 3. One was in Mesa, and 2 of them were on the 10. I got all 2 of them in the mail, and ignored all of them. I have heard if they come knockin on your door and serve you, then you have to take care of it. If they dont you're in the clear. I also heard that after a given amount of time, like 6 months, that it is thrown out too if the door knocker doesnt make it in time. I would just play stupid for awhile, "didnt see a flash, didnt get a ticket".

hmmmm...sorta.

When Redflex had the DPS contract for the camera vans, you could get away with not paying them and there was a pretty good chance nothing would ever happen.

However, municipal photo tickets are a little different. The registered owner of the vehicle will get a violation notice (assuming the plate was visible). If nothing is done, the citation will go as unpaid violation. Depending on the municipality, a bench warrant COULD be issued. This means the registered owner could have a free trip to jail if they are stopped within that municipality for whatever reason in the future.

As Kevin said, wait and see if you even receive one. If the vehicle is registered to someone other than yourself, have that person take the violation notice and present it to the court with a copy of the their DL (usually can be mailed).

Scottsdale has incorporated the "You can't hide from the process server" scenario. They can now go back to the court and get a "drop the notice at your door" ruling, if they have any suspicion, you are eluding the server. I don't believe municipalities, are exempt, from serving you. I don't believe the violation can, just be put on your license, without a proper hearing and serve notice.
Others cities will probably follow suite, if Scottsdale is successful in collecting more revenue.

I think the court can even request you submit, who was driving the car, from the registered owner. I am not sure what happens if you don't supply the name. There may be a way for them to cite the ticket to the owner, but I am not sure. Either way, it's all about revenue. They are slowly closing the loop holes, many are jumping through. In reality, if the camera's end up staying, they will make it more difficult to get out of it. The best scenario is to keep the pressure on, to have them removed.

I went to court when I got blitzed for 18 in a 15 mph zone

no chance - none, they have ways to stack the deck against you

worst case is $$$ plus the damn traffic school :meh: - if you get the notice, it's not worth letting it slide - don't ask me how I know

I may have had a couple blitzes where I never got mail, though................:hhmm:

B is a bad idea. Don't admit that you have the ticket. Don't look it up on the website either. Do a Google search, there's a local attorney who's a big opponent, her site spells out the law very clearly. It's a big help. Basically, she says, if the ticket isn't served, it doesn't exist, unless you acknowledge receipt.

If you do get the ticket, make sure to post the pic, we need a laugh.:hillbilly::whoops::steer:

The cameras aren't going away. They are busy installing them all over Tucson. We've had a few of them around for years, lately the installs have gone into overdrive. :meh:

The best thing to do is for everyone to first don't respond/ hope you don't get served/ avoid the server and waste as much of his time as possible making it so he can't serve as many people. If you do get served go to court. Might as well tie them up and cost them as much money possible dealing with you. The program was only after money in the first place so if it doesn't make enough money its probably the only way its going away.

Taggers?

Maybe we can start a word of mouth thing amongst the local juvenile delinquents that its really cool to tag the speed camera lenses?

Keep them busy and occupied, and they won't have time to tag my fenceline, and keeps the rest of us safe from useless revenue generating devices? (Note: I'm not suborning felony vandalism, just thinking out loud). :)

Glenn (Who wants to have the first speeding ticket ever issued to an FJ60. I'll FRAME that and keep it for bragging rights)

They did that for a while in Phx, they fixed the cameras almost immediately. It takes months to clean up graffiti anywhere else. $ talks, don't mess with the cash cow.:censor::whoops:

City of Mesa will have you served. The process server will dress as a Fed Ex employee and ring your doorbell right at dusk with a box in his hands and a smile on his face. He will wave and smile when you peek thru the window. When you open the door, you will be served.

If the vehicle is registered to your wife, and the speed camera were located under the sign for the titty bar in Star Valley, the ticket will come to your home in her name. She can legally make a copy of her license and send it in with a copy of the ticket and a simple explanation that reads " Clearly, I am not the driver of this vehicle." and the ticket will be dismissed. Your mileage may vary in this scenario with a ticket issued by the city of Mesa. You have no legal obligation in Arizona to implicate, correctly or otherwise, any person who commits a crime.

Mesa doesnt F a round. I was served immediately in front of my house - just drove up and handed it to me while I was unloading a truck. I said it wasn't me (it wasn't it was a work truck) and got an additoanal 150 fine for not appearing on the date (because I sent the letter back sayin it wasnt me I didnt think I needed to appear). So now I had to appeal to get an "Identity Hearing" and present my proof that it was not me - I.E. emails, phone records from my office, etc. The fine is now up to $467.00 if I lose...plus my license will be docked major points. They have been unbelivably throughough and ruthless in following up on this...

From page 5

"In addition, none of the departments are making personal service to anyone that lists a PO Box as their mailing address on their vehicle registrations."
