Phone charger delete possible?

My iphone x is ancient by now, but it fits and charges in the factory charger.

The XS Max barely fits. And looking at the bottom of the charger you can see it’s a 1A….which is the lowest possible charge

the fast chargers are trying to push 2A some even say 3A.

ive thought of using that space as a bank of switches.

But besides the issue of some phones fitting or not 1A won’t keep up with using maps or streaming music. Would be useful to upgrade the charger to a stronger one.

The on/off switch eluded me for the first couple weeks of ownership. Who knew you had to turn it on…..
Plus you have to align the charger and phone. A thick case can prevent this. And going head first or bottom first could change the position of the sensor and charger.

2013 model, but there’s definitely a better way to use that space.

Very nice job with that, @TrekboxX. I suspect there's a market out there for something similar for newer 200's as well - I know I would be interested in something to replace the charger with as my iPhone 12 Pro doesn't charge on the stock charger in my RokForm case. I would just assume plug it in to charge on a long drive anyway.

I have started working on this to see how much room is in there and if my ham radio will fit nicely and to see what kind of panel or insert and or bracket to hold it in there. Have to figure out how to lift off center console to get to bracket holding in the charger module. Oh mine is a 2017 model.

IIRC, the center console trim piece pretty much just pulls up and out. Take the cupholder out first (it may be pretty tight, but it just pulls out straight up).

Nice work. I like it. Can you guys close the door to hide all that stuff too

I installed the GROM CarPlay module. And trying to work on a good solution to charging.
The current front runner is this setup.
A lot of us use these side pockets. And these flat Qi chargers in side so when you slide you phone in it starts charging.
just need to work on a way to make sure it lines up with each drop.

Im about to buy some of those and find a mounting postion that I like.
Funny enough they are an exact match to my ivory leather, and the grey trim as well if anyone is curious. Im not sure if that was intended or not.

@TrekboxX, im using your rear screen delete covers in my '17 LX.
You wouldnt happen to be working on any trim for a third row delete would you?

I think I’m gonna try a hard plastic one. I have some of those disk ones around the house. The rubber you end up having to push it in place and it shifts stuff around. The slick plastic may be better for sliding it in.

I am at this point now and wonder if I can get that center piece bracket off without pulling console completely out. There is a silver box that is preventing it from coming out completely.

Yeah so stuck at that gray box from the pic above. Needs to unclip from the piece that says "LHD" so that I can pull out the console, has a wire connected to its other end but that wire goes into a deep rabbit hole that I cannot get to to unclip it so definitely the gray box has to unclip at the top, been trying and it is a PITA.

Yup, that box has the cable to the usb outlet. It had to come out for me to remove the console. Sorry...
