It is OCD and not everyone has it. For me it is pretty much parts is parts and I don't lose too much sleep over whether I am going to get only 100K miles out of Gates heater hose compared to 150K out of OEM. BTW, my LX450 cost $55,000 18 years ago.

Can you post a picture of your Gates hose with 100K for a comparison?

I'm sorry, but it has only been about 5,000 so far. Can you wait 20 more years?
Besides, if I look at it I might get nightmares.

Yeah, I feel ya, not trying to detract from OP's awesome job well done, or sense of pride in his obviously well maintained rig. And don't get me wrong, I understand there is an appreciable quality difference in all things Toyota vs. others (esp. domestics). Mine was just an offhand comment about the blatant zeal I often see displayed for these trucks like they're perfect and always will be. I mean, the PHH was stupid idea in the first place, right? But I digress. I should have just made an off topic post somewhere else and linked to this thread if I wanted to pursue the subject. I didn't mean to be a naysayer, or give out negative vibes. I was just saying it's a different world here. I'm so used to discussion centered around "How far can I stretch XYZ before it kills someone?" that threads like this make me wonder out loud about the difference.

The OCD here is contagious.:lol: and...it was a $50,000.00 truck.:flipoff2::flipoff2:

Holy crap, diff locks were only a $750 option but leather seating was $4,000?! That's crazy!

I can't even find my PHH! I googled for pictures/location & still can't see it from under the hood, thru the fender or from down under. If I can't even find/see it then how do I replace it?

Right?

I got a couple of brief glimpses of it before I drove over to my mechanic and had him deal with it.

:lol:

This got me climbing under the hood with a flashlight. Things look fine. Feeling pretty good at 115k thanks to Phil's documentation here, so I'm going to give em a few more miles.

...Any one of the the Jeep forums I used to haunt would have bragged about the ways they rigged this up with garden hose and rubber bands...

This made me giggle! I totally take it as a compliment as I think it was meant to be. I'm an anal retentive OEM part buyin LC owner because I don't like to be stranded. Maybe this doesn't necessarily apply to the PHH, but in general, I would rather spend the money and spend the weekend exploring the backcountry than stuck at home repairing the same **** I fixed last month.

Well thank god you know how to fix it...cause ya fixed it last month... OEM all the way! Much easier way all around.
