Anyone else have this issue?
Rebuilding my drum brakes (because of frozen bellcranks).
Ordered the "hardware kit"(springs, C or U clips, cups and hold do w n pins or "nails").
Every thing seems to be correct except the pins and springs.

They shipped TWO sets (4 each) of the pins, in two different lengths. Both of which are MUCH shorter than the original pins. The originals are 2.25 inches long - this seems a suitable length for 2.25 inch break shoes.
One set barely protrudes through the middle flange, and the longer one does NOT protrude far enough for the supplied spring (even fully compressed) to be installed.
Note that the hardware kit, in addition to having hold down pins that are too short, has hold down springs that are 50% larger th a n the originals.

As far as I can tell, this hardware kit is sold from a lot of vendors.
Close to impossible to buy just the pins and springs.

I am tempted to simply re-install the original pins and springs, but it feels wrong.
Anyone know of a source for these? Or the shorter springs?

You need to be more specific describing "pins" and "springs". There are several different ones.

Refer to drawing.

Brake shoe hold down pins: 47457 (in the diagram - SOR?)

Brake shoe hold down spring: 47430C

Thanks!
I'll have to remember to look there first.

Cruiser Corps had previously been good for parts.
Not sure what others do who get the pre-packaged collection of drum brake hardware for the 60, and discover there is no way you can install the pins and springs supplied.

I ordered a $6 'brake hardware kit' from Rock Auto (it was a US/national brand) and it had what I needed.

the pins were too short in the kit i rec'd -- maybe rock auto. went to napa and and got a few in the correct length. they sell separately.

I never buy kits. Buy each part individually. Kits contain aftermarket parts and as you experienced, sometimes some oddball parts.

I got strange pin lengths from a rock auto kit as well. I used my original rusty pins on the day, and then ordered new ones from Toyota. Obviously not uncommon!
