Partial hitch receiver cover - is there such a thing made? (1 Viewer)

I have an extra one for my ‘08 LX painted 1G8.
Can you look on the back of the cover for the part number?
Mine is 52169-60130-B1 same for 2013 LX and LC.[edit: LC number is 52169-60070 see discussion below, and they cannot be used interchangeable]
I wonder if Toyota changed the cover from '08 to '13.

The numbers do not match but do you have a larger pics with the clips on the back to see if they are the same?

Hate to be "that guy" but this is incorrect.

2013 LC is 52169-60070 plus a color code
Your number is appropriate for a mercury gray 2013 LX.

Just don't want someone in the future ordering the wrong part.

Here are some pictures...

You are right that the two trucks have two different part numbers.

If anyone with a LC wants to do this project @Sinister has the part for you.

In the mean time if someone has an LX version please let me know.

i am looking for exactly the same thing. i tow something pretty much every week, but then drive around with these rectangular holes showing.

i already bought a spare plastic cover to cut up, just have not done it yet.
i was also going to paint the exposed metal parts of the hitch white, to match the body color.

it is not going to look great, as you need to be able to attach the tow hooks, and get to the receiver pin install too, so you need to leave big gaps between the hitch metal and how tight the plastic cover fits.

i was toying with the idea of adding small strong magnets to the hitch metal surface, and matching magnets or steel plate on the inside of the plastic par. That way the plastic cover loosely fits into the bumper, but then clip on tightly with the magnets. that way i do not need to use the two plastic pin/clips to hold the cover on (which will surely break if i install/remove them every week)

if i figure it out i will post the solution here.

Thanks for the find! That's more like what I originally posted. I was concerned there would be a larger gap between the hitch cover inside cutout and the bumper cover behind it due to the hitch cover bump, and yes there is some. It is not too bad though. Ideal would be the hitch cover to be flush with the bumper cover - maybe some 3D scanning and printing will do that but I have neither.
Probably with a bit more careful and symmetric cutting, and better finish (some sanding is badly missing in that picture) will look even better.
As for $5 on ebay that is no longer the case. Even more so Toyota discontinued the preprinted covers.
If someone is looking the PN used to be 52169-60130-[color code]. Now it is 5216960908.

That is an excellent idea. After removing those two clips I'm also concerned with the repeated removal even if only seasonal in my case. The challenge would be finding some strong enough magnets and a way to attach them to the plastic (maybe some kind of epoxy welding). I'll hate to put all that effort into making the cover just to lose it on the road.

Rare earth magnets can be very strong.
i saw some of these at a woodworking store, and it took a lot of force to pull a pair of them apart.
Not sure if you need two pair, or four pair, i will figure it out.

it might be sufficient to just have two magnets attaching to the steel hitch metal itself....i am not sure yet.

today, i took the simple path:

I just painted the damn thing the same color as my bumper. Looks much better! :)

Not sure why Lexus chose to paint it black in the first place!

Here is my version.
I got a spare (only available unpainted) cut, shaped, and painted in the body color on both sides.
I added some clear paint protection film to the sides of the hitch to prevent wear and scratches on the paint while operating the hitch.
The Lexus rubber plug should be delivered today to finish it off the summer trim.
I'm using the original for winter.

~Nicely done.

Potential opportunity for a 3D printed part? @SharpeCat

Nice! How about just using 1 for all seasons, and add a cover that snaps in for the winter?

Did you design this in autocad? I am working on setting up a print farm and have began collecting models that would interest mud, may I use this one? Plan is to make these for mud at cost of production, as well as to teach mudders with their own printers on how to make their own.

I will credit you if I can use it and engrave your name into the final STL file that I will share on mud.

Thanks bosses for the consideration, as well as the tag @TeCKis300

The one cover with snap cover creates some challenges for how to make it so it looks good without the snap cover in place and at the same time not show signs of wear on the paint from snapping the cover on and off. In addition the snap cover should not limit the access to the hitch especially because there is little space between the hitch pin hole and the plastic bumper parts.

I did not "design" it in Autocad. I do have a process of making it so it looks "factory" but it is manual stuff. It takes a few hours to do it this way and look good. Add to that $50+ for the part and it is not cheap, and that doesn't even include painting.

Even just 3D printing it as it is for people to just buy would be great. That is what I was looking for when I started the thread.
In the process you might be able to adjust the lower half so it does not flare out making it even better fit and looks.
