Part it or Wheel it?

I bought a plow setup off the same truck at one point. I paid $175 for it in fair condition. I think you could get more than that.

Register a plow rig? :hillbilly: Next you'll be wantin' to insure it too.......then not even drink while you're plowing........:hillbilly:

Seriously, even if you had no paper work, as long as it moves snow, it's worth more than the biggest cheap crap snowblower from Home Depot = yard truck. :)

I should have the paperwork to get it registered. We do need insurance in RI and I think thats the reason the wife doesn't want me to register it.

I personally don't need a yard truck cause my yard is less than 6000 sq ft. But it I can flip it what the heck.

Some other thoughts to keep in mind:

Parting a truck out sucks. You will have parts layng around for years, I still have some stuff from my old '84 that I parted out in 2003. You will have buyers stiff you on the deal, especially once they find out that it will cost them (for example) $50 to ship the grille that you're only charging $20 for (BTDT). Set some time limits, be prepared to throw some good parts away because you will be sick of looking at the stuff cluttering up your garage.

I parted out an '87 turbo truck a couple of years ago, just to get the R151F tranny. I set a limit of one month, anything left after that went to the dump. I ended up throwing away the ENTIRE interior, it was interesting hacking up the bench seat with a sawzall. All of the scrap metal (body, frame, suspension) went into my trailer, to a local scrap yard, where they gave me $20 for it ($0.02 per lb). I found some fool to buy the entire turbo engine from me, but I had to take it to Maryland to meet him.

A carb'd 22R engine is not worth much, even if it runs well. Same for the G-series tranny. You *might* get $100 for the entire rear axle. Plan on tossing all the interior parts, unless it has the really nice SR-5 seats, those are worth a lot.

I'm serious about needing a decent hood, if you don't need it.

What Ken describes is what I was thinking when I responded to your intial email on the YT List. Too much trouble unless there was something specific on the truck you wanted, esspecially with winter bearing down on us.

But if you have the gumption, why not? :)

Fix the brakes, weld the diffs, throw some bigger tires on it and wheel the snot out of it.
It doesn't have to look good to have fun. I see a lot of guys doing this and it looks like a blast, when you eventually roll it then part it out. :D

I guess I should wait until I see what condition its in before I make an decisions. I mean it could be held together by rust, mud and a little duct tape or it could be a half way decent truck with a bad brake line. It could be anywhere in between.

"PART IT, PART IT, PART IT" we could get another 2-3 guys down there on a nice weeknd with a set of torches and have that thing stripped by lunch time. :D

Pick the easy to sell/most valuable parts off of it and sell those first and make your money on those. Pick off the next wave of parts and throw them on eBay for no reserve. Junk the rest

just hack it together and beat the piss out of it.
One of the best time i have ever had wheeling was after I rolled my 4runner and was wheeling it after that becasue when u truly don't care about the body you do some interesting things and have a blast.
When I say hack sazall biggest tires you can find used for cheep and at best a reduction box less then 400$ and u can have some fun for a little while. I'm not talking something that is going to last more than perhaps a season or two.
Parting stuff on the older trucks isn't really worth it unless u have a lot of time space and patience. I did it about 8 years ago and had to much junk around for to long, wouldn't do it again unless I needed a bunch of parts.

Some of us have rigs that we wheel like that all the time :D and it shows...

Picked this thing up last night. I'll have to try to get some pics up.

The brakes don't work and I guess the clutch line went since he last the guy used it. So no clutch, no brakes and the guys driveway was long and pretty steep. We backed the trailer right up to it, pulled the coil wire and used the starter to bump it on the trailer.

Planning on taking some pics tonight.

Got the chance to look at it in the day light. The frame is to the point where I wouldn't put any money into it. The bed is junk but otherwise its a real nice truck.

The cab, doors, grill, bumpers, hood ect are in really nice shape. I found out that the guy was the orignal owner of it.

Here it is.

put the plow back on it, sell for $800-1000. Great plow truck, even if the frame is junk. Saves you a ton of time stripping it.

Is the frame shot all the way to the front, or just rear spring hangers back? If it is the latter, cutting at the cab and tubing would make a fun wheeling rig.

I'll take some closer pics of the frame. I haven't had time to really look at it much. Pretty busy with the house.

The plow blade has some rust through. I would have to fix the clutch and brake lines too.

Thats enough out of you! fire the torch up! :flipoff2:

Why do you love destruction so much? Someone has some anger issues.

If you need a berserker with torches to tear apart that hulk, tie a bottle of rum on the end of a stick and coax pat off cape. :)

I probably need to be kicked in the head for asking this. Does anyone have an FJ40 frame kicking around they would consider selling for cheap?
