Came off a 75 Fj40.
Don't know what it does despite having part numbers on it.

Vacuum switching valve for sure, maybe out of the vapor canister purge. Looks like a tripod Martian from war of the worlds. Perhaps Timmyisinthewell could look up the part #. Oh and there always a possibility some PO repurposed something or just stuck it the box of parts because.

As noted by OGBeno above, it looks to be a vacuum switching valve. The p/n comes close to one on the microfiche - 17650-61050. This fiche set covers US and Canadian markets from 03/69 to 07/80. Your part number doesn't show up anywhere for the 40 series or 55's. Could your truck have come from another
market? Oh well, you're desmogged anyway. Oh yeah, as always I apologize for the terrible quality of the pics, but this old fiche set is well worn and over 40 years old. And the viewer isn't new tech either.

It came with a bunch of parts when I bought my 1975 Fj40 so who knows?

17651-61050 is the valve itself minus any mounting or electrical connections as seen in the picture above. It’s sub-assembly that is not available separately for service parts support. 17650 would be the entire unit assembly.

1976-1977 Vaccum surge tank & vacuum switching valve for throttle positioner and evap system.

Depends if you’re smogged, need smog equipment in your state or want evap system to work/throttle positioner to work.

I recommend at least to use/keep evap as it keeps fuel smell at bay.
