I just rattle canned my white ones black. Works ok. Can't remember if I used wheel paint or bedliner...

They are pretty sensitive and even water and dirty water drops have set mine off.
You may want to try coloring a round dot of clear (packing) tape the size of the sensor and color it black with a Sharpie and see how that works. At least it's not permanent.
If it works, take the tape off and maybe just color the sensor with the Sharpie?

You know what REALLY screws them up more than paint? Not having a steel rear bumper...

FWIW - this sensor worked just fine until it fell out from the cracked mount (which are surprisingly cheap to replace from Lexus) and was pointing straight down, at which point it went off continuously while in reverse. New mounting ring, works just like before! Bumper plastic pushed out just fine with the heat gun and welding gloves massaging it back into place.

Just checked, my fronts are rattle canned with black bedliner. My rear ones are covered with black vinyl. All of them function just fine.
