What are some aftermarket parking brake otions out there for the pick up world? My newly acquired toy did not come with a parking brake? Has anyone used All-pro off road kit? I am open to all options and suggestions.

Cheers!

I have an All-Pro t-case e-brake, bought it in '01 not long after they came out. Works well, although it's a pain if I ever need to disconnect the rear driveshaft now. Takes a while to install too.

Do you know if the All pro kit will only work with Toyota T-case? I am actually not sure what I have in there right now. The rig has a doubler, but is that put in before or after the stock case? Maybe a dumb question, but I'll take a chance. How does it affect the drive shaft disconnect?

My ebrake on my '85 works, but not that well. I've taken to carrying a grapefruit sized rock or a small chunk of wood around as my aftermarket ebrake. :)

I am carrying a couple of bricks and at night I even cable lock it to the tree by my parking space. But for organized runs I think they require a working e-brake so I gotta "giterdone". Thanks for the info. I think I will order it, everything else requires a whole bunch of expensive rear axle upgrades. I have a Moser Dana 60 in the back, I cant fathom what I would have to do to e-brake it. I'll try to get some kind of write up on the all pro. with pictures if there is an interest whether it will be success or failure on camera I cant promise. : ). It looks like some guy on prirate used it as well. Thanks, keep the ideas flowing!

is linelock where the line is valved off while the brake is depressed? my buddy suggested it - yeah not sure how that is treated by event requirements. I would think they want a braking system that is independent in case a line gets ripped. I will have to take a look and see if I can identify what I got under there (the downside of buying another person's toy) and all pro said if I give them the bolt pattern, they will see if they can help make it fit. Sounds like I will be under the rig spending some quality time.

A line lock is not an emergency brake. If you tear a brake line off, you will have NO BRAKES, no way to stop.

I have run the AP driveline brake for several years now and it is excellent. It is on a 4Runner with dual cases. The driveshaft is hard to remove but it is doable even in the field.

You may see many people frustrated with this brake and claim it is hard to adjust and/or the pads wear out fast. Others think it does not hold well. I found that one just needs to take the time to set it up right and get it adjusted correctly the first time. As is typical with AP products the instructions are limited and you must be capable of figuring it out for yourself.

The nice thing is that it really does hold and even provides true emergency stopping even at moderate speeds.

I think I will go with AP and as soon as I begin the project I will begin posting the progress. I am sure it will be eventful and exciting. I like the simplicity of valving off the lines, but I have seen vehicles lose brake lines on the trail from stumps and other fun snags, and 38 inch tires without brakes, don't sound fun at all even if I have a cage. Although until I get the all pro setup done, the linelock will be better than the bricks and chain. LOL.

i had the ap parking brake for a few years and it was causing drive line vib and if you have upgraded to 1310 u joints you have to shave down the flange on the drive shaft to keep it from hitting the brake i pulled it off and went back to a stock style and im thinkin bout line locks too. that way if they do inspections i do have the stock brake but i also have one that works really well.

Check out Sky's ebrake kit too...it's similar to AP's but has more of a skid built into it for the same price.

I like it, they have a nice skid plate too. Man, where did all my money go? Then I gotta keep getting stuff for the 80, because she will get jealous. Any idea on Tcase / transmission mounts, they are cracked on this badboy.
