So, if you caught by previous thread: Clutch woes - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/clutch-woes.1349555/

I finally worked out my clutch and flywheel issues. Now getting the parking brake fixed that has never worked right. I had another brake drum that I bought years ago. Now that I look at it, it's slightly different. My original is on the right with the recessed splines. The other one that I bought years ago is on the right. This is on my 1962 FJ40. It did have the early transfer case and l later upgraded to a 1969 3 speed case. Are both these still compatible? The yoke length is the same as well as the drum size. The one on the left seems to have a bit more drum thickness though.

Thanks

Robert

Think I see the light. My original was from the early transfer case and was installed on the later transfer case. Probably why it didn't work right.

So the one on the right is for the 1958-1968. The one on the left is for the 1969-1975.

👍My '67 is like the one on the right. I had it off to get 10mm studs installed and some machine work done. I didn't think of taking a picture of the other side.

Up to mid 1963 the transmission/transfer case for the three speed were different than the later three speed transmission/transfer case that lasted until 10/82 in some markets. Main change to the on these was the bolt pattern for the driveshaft. Possible spline count changed at some point. 1958-1960 Toyota imported the FJ25. Four speed with a granny gear, cast iron transfer case with no low range. The hand brake was very crud. Exposed drum that a strap wrapped around. Long lever in cab tightened the strap around the drum. Very common to see the FJ40 dating by to 1958 but never seen a FJ40 VIN that started with 0. 1 is the lowest number for 1961.

Yes, same U-joint.
I just ask because I've seen listing's for separate parts for the 58-74 and 74-90. On the same page they also list 58-1/90.

Example is CCOTs page:

Take a closer look at the page and you will see they list two different U-joints; 58 to 1/74 and 1/74 to 1/90.
