hey guys i have a problem with my parking brake cable on a 1977 fj40. after i put in the marlin crawler toy box it is to short. do u think any other cable will fit in that spot? maybe fj55.

I bought a longer one from BTB, but it took some fabrication/modification before it fit properly. The groove that takes the retaining clip on the drum end was not machined fully, and the "T" piece on the handle end showed up as an eyelet. I ended up tig welding a shaft into the eyelet to make it work.

All that, and it was about $145 shipped.

I used the cable from an earlier (I think) 40. Do a search and you shhould find the year that fits.

Marlin has a speedo extention cable on there site for 24.00. Sorry about that guess i should pay better attention before posting.

I've gone through this a couple times.

Toyota part #46410-60050 is the cable you want.

It is from an earlier model which had the cable route higher up through the firewall rather than near the floor. It is about 3 1/2 - 4 inches longer which is enough when adding a Toybox.

You do need to remove the firewall flange that comes with it. Just undo 1 adjusting nut and slide the flange off the end of the cable. It also comes with a bare eyelet at the handle end. You will need to use your existing pin or make a new one by cutting the shaft of a bolt so that the eyelet becomes a "T". It is very simple and you will understand what you need to do once you have the cable in hand.
I paid $49 for mine last July from Stevens Creek Toyota in San Jose, CA. I walked in and they had it in stock.

thanks for the input everyone.
