Too far north. Too far east.
Off into the weeds again. With the Gila burning I decided to head north to the Jemez. I need to confess that I really haven't spent much time in the Jemez. I'm not one of those fellas that call off forest road numbers like Frank. So, even though I've lived in ABQ for 25 years, this was really an introduction for me.

Because I missed the middle section of the NM Backcountry Discovery Route with Ali and Poupon I've been doing small sections to catch up, following up with a little exploring. So this time I started in Cuba and took the route up to Coyote then over to Youngsville, and down FR100. From there I just wing-dinged looking for loop roads that were, well, not nice. I succeeded.

I should have brought a saw. I'm surprised I didn't see more down. I'm just glad it was aspen.

On the other side after a little gardening.

Camp second night. After I parked I had a feeling I've seen this spot posted before. @alia176 ? Off FR 117.

Robber fly. Totally harmless, and just too cute.

I've been here before. During a snow run. I have a pic of that sign buried in snow.

The camp that almost was. It was at 9600ft, on the top of ridge, with thunderstorms brewing. Na, I'll move. Off FR329.

Camp 200ft lower. I felt much better as the storms let loose. (NAWT!)

A meadow. Just a meadow.

Longhorn beetle. It decided to take a break on my leg, so of course, I grabbed the phone for a portrait.

I think the pic of "the sign buried in snow" was the place where there were about 8 rigs all stuck in the snow as the sun was going down. Fortunately Juane knew the way out. No, we didn't turn around!

Jon,
The next set of mountains, moving north, are the Tusas. As I'm finding out they offer an entire universe of exploration and discovery.
(But keep it on the downlow).😑😑😑

I went over that Aspen last weekend with the camper and I'm sure we've gone by that spot on 117, @pappy. Not sure if we've camped there though.

I went to collect some firewood in the Manzanos north of Tajique on Sunday. I need to do some more exploring around those areas and get some maps so I know where I am. I saw a turkey and several mule deer, along with morons collecting wood and not following the Stage 2 fire restriction rules to not use chainsaws between 10 am and 6 pm. Sorry, no pictures of the forest but here is one of a very poorly loaded trailer not really built to haul this heavy load.

Most of the people up there not following the fire restrictions are locals. They are jerks. Probably the same A-holes that cut the maple trees to sell for firewood.

Maple trees?
