So, I never got around to putting my Ehsan top on... but the weather has me thinking. I still need to get some turnbuckles and the canvas pieces, which ones should I go with? Specialty Tops? Other options?

What would you do differently after having it installed for a year?

Thanks!

Mine's been on over a year. Well, mostly off all last summer. I bought the turnbuckes from STC and they're good. I probably mounted my footman loops a little too high on the tub and don't have as much room in the back to really cinch it down. I'll probably also mount a snap on the two front corners at the top of the windshild frame to keep the corners down. I love mine.

Thanks for the info...

Are you running the footman loops all across the back (1/2 doors or tailgate) and on the radius of the corners?

I was thinking of skipping the footmans on the rear radius? My tailgate already has the footmans...

Yep, everywhere there is a strap on the top I put a footman loop. I wouldn't recommend not putting some on the corners. If you roll up the back and sides (full bikini style), those will be the only ones holding the corners down.

as you can see, they're kinda high on the tub and I only have about an inch more to cinch the top down until the top hits the footman. I researched them before I installed and thought I mirrored the original placement.

I make it 22mm from the outside roll of the tub rail ( where it begins the 'step' inward) to the center of the footman loop screw on my factory soft top truck. Looks like you're in the right place.

That must be Jeremie giving good advice...I mounted my loops 3-1/16" below topmost edge of tub which matched the location of stock loops on my swingout tailgate. I'm not sure 22cm below the step would have worked for me, my Eshan top seemed long, but I suppose I could have put a spacer to raise the tube framework if in a pinch.

Here's some comments I made, might help, might be drivel...at least there's pictures!

I had trouble getting turnbuckles from vicar and another supplier (wanted to sell me a box of 1,000). But Champion Toyota (Houston) quoted me $5.08 each (sorry no part number). I still haven't gotten around to buying any.

Stainless grommets can be had at any marine shop, my 1-1/2" (1" inside) ss footman loops were from West Marine.

hope this helps!?

I think that includes the two used for the jump seats.

The qauntity of 22 turnbuckles was in Toyotas system for when they were selling the "Kayline" OEM Soft TOP like SOR now sells. For the original canvas top like Honk has or the reproduction style that Eshan is producing, takes a total of eight turnbuckles. Each side has one turnbuckle that goes next to the main door bow and then three turnbuckles that are used to hold the side window flap. The turnbuckles are mounted on the upper most hemmed portion of the tub.

If you need some photos let me know.

I meant to also say that the "Kayline Oem" top is being produced by STC in Denver.

Here is a pic of my 1973 OEM Canvas Top. I can measure the locations of the turnbuckles if you need them. I am taking the canvas to the upholstery shop tommorow to intall the grommets on the canvas. I can post pics of it with the grommets installed after that.

Thank you for the pictures. My 68 tub has 9 holes on each side for the fastners. I was guessing:

9 per side (18)
2 for jump straps
2 to fasten top on windshield corners.

I already ordered 20 of them from my dealer at $5.20 each (FWIW, dealer cost is $4.04 each)

Perhaps my yr tub had a different amount

Awesome :D

I will order a bunch of them either way... but I would love to know more about the OEM setups on different years....

Thanks all!

My 71 is set up for 9 turnbuckles on each side, too.

mine's a '77 and is just as Ground Up described above - four per side, two for the seat straps. The front corners of the top at the windshield frame are held by screws with fender washers under their phillips heads. AFAIK it's factory original that way as the vehicle has just over 30,000 miles on it.

t-o:"I'm not sure 22cm below the step would have worked for me"

That was my measurement of the distance down from the tub rail, not for swingout doors. My FST has the softtop ambulance doors, hence no footman loops.
