Got it done over the past few days with some snags and some crash course phone calls with Mr. Elmariachi.

Jim is one hell of a guy. I appreciated all of his assistance.

Got everything snugged up and go to start the thing...the alarm starter kill relay kicks in and everything goes wild...I'm thinking the solenoid is shot, wires screwed up, etc.

Anyway, finally figured it out and pulled the damn alarm CPunit out for good!!

Never used the thing anyway.

Basically, same Painless set up as Jim's and 4Dalamute's except that I am using DieHard Gold's in both positions, 2 gauge wire for the terminal and solenoid connections; I hooked the winch up to the battery #2, the CB to #2, and the fog lights to #2 as well. #1 is for starting.

All is well. And I am happy. Another project down.

While I was at it too in the past few days I replaced the fuel filter and redid the starter contacts and tidyed up the engine bay with some snazzy color coded zip ties....

Thanks for all of your help gentlemen....what a great group of guys indeed.

Best regards.

Is youre second battery a deep cycle and if it is I think you should have connected youre winch to the main battery as it needs every avalible amp you have.
Mine is and I just leave the motor on fast idle while winching.
Never had a problem like that.
660 C.C.A. main.
Don't want to take any power away from the Engel.

I don't have a fridge installed and IIRC the highest amperage use by any accessories is the winch (Warn M8)...

WIth high amp pulls, I can switch the batteries to be charging and working together, then turn it back off once the winching is done and have driven a bit to recharge the second unit. I'll probably only be using the #1 battery for most daily driving (though, with petrol prices these days, I don't drive it much at all).

The DieHard's are both rated at 700 CCA each, with a 100 min RC.

I've grown up using Die Hard's and they've never let me down once...;)

You want to see color coded zip ties?!?

 :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

The fuel filter was really easy and I followed alia176's directions in his thread.

The starter contacts were pretty simple too and used the FSM for the schematics.

I was joking about the zip ties....

I'll be looking into this setup. Just ordered the relocation kit from Christo. I asked him to bring it to Moab so I don't have to drive the 35 miles to Golden (Aint I a stinker!).

Next will get the 2nd Batt tray from CDan. We already talked about it.

Once both of those are complete, I will be digging in to which system. This one looks pretty good. There will be a few rigs with dual batts at Moab, so I am sure I will be discussing this over a few cigars and a Crown Royale on the rocks.

Thanks for all the information, it will help a lot.

Quit working on your truck and take care of your GF and please get some sleep.
She is probably painting up a storm in the new house and you are oblivious to the new purple colors.

Bastid!!!!!!!

Have fun in Moab Romer. If I had more cash and time I'd be there.

The Painless setup is pretty simple, now, looking back (and after calling Jim about 4 times.... ).

The things that "got me" doing this:

1. I am about as knowledgeable about electrical stuff as I am about nuclear fission technology.

2. It takes a few minutes to get acquainted with the engine bay wires and where they go, along with a bunch of time dealing with fuses, relays, and all of the bundled wires behind the steering column. That said, I did this in a leisurely way over three days putting in other projects as well....

3. The directions they include (in my case Painless) were very good and it is wise to follow them and not deviate. Jim assured me that they know their stuff and they were the Ft. Worth Small Business of the Year, IIRC.

Enjoy the smokes and the Royale...

Bastid!!

See, I know enough to be dangerous, I'm an Electronics Engineer, but have been in Management for a while. I seem to remember something called ohms law.

Beno, as topendyobbo said i would wire the winch off #1 cranking battery, and second battey should be deep cycle, and only run radios, fridges, auxillery lights ect off it. If you use just an ordinary cranking battery for these things it wont last long, cranking battereis are not designed to be discharged and charged a lot of times as the lead plates are too thin, they are designed purely for cranking the engine, deep cycle have thicker plates and would outlast a cranking battery x 5

Beno, you are really making progress on that thing. Very nice. One project after another! My building is about to begin as well.

She does get pissed when I spend an entire day or two on the rig....I'm getting close to a divorce.... :frown:

Yeah, just trying to take care of some things that have been sitting around for awhile...

Can't wait to see the development on your rig Alex....

Best regards.
