Don't see too many 40's without that wear spot in the hump.
Same problem, just have to take a break more often. I usually forget about the knee because my back starts screaming..

My 40 causes me a pain in the arse, not in the knee

Only on long drives does the knee start hurting. I just grin and bear it, when I first started driving my cruiser daily, the outside and front of my shin was killing me from having to hold my foot up all the time. A stiffer carb return spring helped that a bit. I found purposely putting my leg straight with the pedal, and not letting my legs naturally spread out helped with the knee pain.

And JJS, you talking older F series trucks, cause they make my dad and I's ankles hurt also. We have a similar build, long trips in the pickup or Bronco kills the ankle in them. I find the pedal to be too stiff on Fords.

I've had a bunch of them dating back to the late '80's. The latest one is a 2001. The '91 Bronco I had was probably the most comfortable. The gas pedals are always stiff on them. I keep buying them because they're reliable, and I buy them for half the price of a Tundra.

My 78 pedal is in the same place. I moved the seat back by reversing the rear U-shaped floor mounts and redrilling the front mounts that helped with the legf bend. With the V-8 conversion the motor and trans is moved forward usually. I reworked the trans cover by extending the flat edge over 3 inches and adding a straight down piece of sheet metal on the driver side.

I've got to agree with the pain but I've learned to deal with the fact, between my 60bug and 71Cruiser my body sure doesn't ache more than the average twenty year old. haha....I feel more like a fifty year but I sure do Love Cruise'N
in any case, " adapt and overcome"

I thought I remember seeing a set of extented seat tracks for our 40's. Spector maybe... or CCOT. I agree that the gas pedal needs shortening. I think extenting the seat tracks or moving the seat back would help too.

IMO you have a bad defect in your rig...mine don't do that at all...you need to get rid of that rig before we have to amputate your leg...

Since there is this major defect... i will take it off your hands for...

$10 this will cover the cost of your co-pay to see the doctor :grinpimp:

I think your right....hum nope, 10K and its yours.

I have after market seats already and they are a little too high for my liking as it is. I did install a little hand throttle (bike shifter) (about $9 total). Cruise-control sort of. It has made a great difference in highway driving.

It's my left knee that gets a pain - from the window crank.

The problem with poor man's cruise control is maybe you can't release it quickly enough in an emergency. Just a thought.

If the easy fixes don't do it for you, you might consider different seats with more bolster, or modifying your existing seats. As it is, it sounds like maybe when you relax your upper leg it leans outward and puts twist onto your ankle and foot. More bolster will support the leg before this "torque" occurs. That was my experience anyway. I'm 6'3"+ and am using Volvo seats that are mounted further back. 1000 miles is pretty comfortable.

X5 ? I think, on the seat brackets from Classic Cruisers, they really help! With the gas prices like they are now my DD 11 MPG Cruiser is kicking me square in the arse. However, I feel I am doing my part in reducing gas consumption by forcing the folks behind me to drive 55 MPH!! :)

Yeah I find my right leg getting sore after a long drive now mind you my seats are not original PO installed with one weird mount setup im guessing an extra
2" taller atleast. Now I find that it goes away if I have the seat leaned back just a bit so I can stretch out just that bit more.
Just my .02 cents worth

I'm only 5'7" and I don't see how anyone anytaller than my could drive such a thing! My gal is 6' tall and she cramped in the passenger seat. I'm toying with the idea of a large bench seat from an old impala or something. one big seat four less brackets to make!!!
