Lots of questions from people in various threads that I figured we should have a general thoughts and questions thread.

I’ll start.

I have no idea how this Hybrid stuff works.

I found this screen on mine. Shows the boost and how much battery I have.

I have no idea how any of this stuff works.

What kind of driving will fully charge the battery?

Also this is the current MPG. Lots of turbo spools. Once I get they out of my system I’m sure this thing will get 20+

Hi,

Short answer - the battery will generally be partially changed and rarely, if ever, show full. This is normal and proper operation.

Longer answer - the battery and electric motors are there for performance boost (first) and for efficiency second. So the battery/motors will supply extra power when merging/passing and then recharge the battery to be ready for the next round of performance needed. They are not really designed to seek and hold the battery at ‘full’.

So, drive it and enjoy the performance and the surprise of a 5K lb aerodynamic version of brick that can get 20 MPG and is fairly quick.

Our RX350h is an efficiency optimized hybrid (as opposed to performance optimized like the 250). Having said that it has much better zip than I expected. Because it is efficiency optimized it only gets 240hp, but returns 35 MPG in regular driving and will get up to 40 MPG when driving in town when the battery/electric can deliver its best efficiency.

I am curious to see if running the 250 in ‘eco’ mode versus ‘normal’ mode has an appreciable impact on MPG or performance.

What’s your experience with the transmission? Any weird hunting through rpm/gears?

I can feel the hybrid stuff happening when you start and Slow down but the transmission is great. Smooth

After 100 miles any comparison to your other LC experiences @wngrog ?

It’s a totally different feel but not in a bad way. I think these things will be extremely capable off road. The size and visibility are great.

It rides very very good.

I always felt Land Cruisers were a bit heavy in stock form for the suspension. Especially the 200. This truck does not feel heavy. The stock is really well done.

I can’t believe there is no floor mat or phone holder discussion.

That was 1/3 the threads when the 200 launched
Those folks are still too wound up that Toyota calls it a Land Cruiser.

I'm 1800 miles in and am just starting to get a real feel for this rig.

The hybrid powertrain is my first, and while initially it felt totally weird, it's proven to be a very dynamic motor and transmission.
The throttle calibration is excellent, and you feel surprisingly involved.
Over 1800 miles of mixed back roads/I95, and city streets I'm averaging 20.6mpg going between eco and normal mode.
Still pissed about 91 min octane, but I'll get over it.

A caveat for the drive modes: The steering firms up in sport, which is nice - I find it a little light in its regular setting - but it can't be had that way in the other modes as far as I can figure.

The brakes are excellent - at least compared to the 2020 Tacoma I replaced it with.
Seats, also excellent but could benefit from lateral adjustment.

My only real gripes are with the tech/lunatic safety systems, and a few cheap-feeling bits.
Pretty amazing Toyota sells a $76k vehicle with a hood you have to manually prop!

Can the nanny safety systems warnings be shut off either via options or coding?

You can s*** it all off I think. I know I killed the lane thing on mine immediately

Yes - everything can be shut off.
The front cross traffic alert - which is particularly maddening in the city - will reset itself every time you restart though, and its buried at the end of a menu which can't be modified if the vehicle is in motion. I'm sure there will be a coding fix for that at some point.

The auto start/stop also doesn't have a dedicated on/off switch or setting. Pressing the tow/haul button disables it, but the auto start/stop is really pretty seamless.

It’s a hybrid. That’s part of the powertrain logic. It’s not the same as ASS

I don't consider a 100 or 200 a Landcruiser. 😆

I don't want to start a thread for this, but why would anyone choose the Toyota version over the Lexus version?

For me it was to get the hybrid and better mileage for my daughter. Plus I love the cloth and simple interior personally.

I get the simple interior. I'm on the hunt for import strip down 80.

Mileage I don't really care. If I can't afford gas, I sure AF can't afford the vehicle. Though it's a little disheartening when you've got a 34 gallon tank, you fill up and you've got less than 180 miles of range. 🤣

I import Saudi 80s. They are not cheap but they are fantastic.
