While I can't do this now...due to job constraints...would be cool to tag along on at some point.

Looks like the guys over in the MS forum do something like this a good bit. I think most of the crew around STLCA seem to own 40's, a few 60's and 80's.

Anyway something to consider....at present I would just tow my junk to some offload point and join the crew...and use the pickup-trailer for the pavement side of things. Anyway I think it would be "cool" thing to do. May have no rock-crawling at all...obviously not something for hard core trail rigs...

I'm too low geared at present time to even consider long pavement trips and the 60 or at least my 60 is not the most comfortable thing to spend an extended period of time in... maybe I "gots to save up and buy an 80 or something"

I know there's got to be plenty of places to visits/check out ...etc that may not be real hard core trails but would be something you would not take your general stock street machine to check out.

Here is one on my list for 2016.
In April they will be opening the Back country byway in the Slade Ky area. 130 miles of abandon county roads they have linked together in 3 countries. Cartotracks currently has the data to produce the cell phone map.

I've been wanting to go up and check that out Roger, we need to start planning.

Slade is where I first started wheeling before I moved to TN, 30 min east of Lex. Red river gorge area. The old bronco got beat up a lot there. I thought most of it was graded and closed but not sure.

Most of it was closed but Southern and 3 county governments have been working for several years to open up trails. The byway is made up of old county roads that have not been maintained but are still on the book, like the cove. They have also leased some land for the harder core trails.
Look at Friends of Boone face book page.

Any of the above sounds good!

I'm going to be moving to Nashville at the end of the month and would definitely be interested. I went on an overland trip in the Ozarks back in December and had a lot of fun, but hoping to check out what TN has to offer

The Nashville contingency is growing, welcome man!

@jason in tn and @jynx are officers of STLCA and live in the area, we are going to try to have a GSMTR shakedown day run at Woolys off-road between now and May.

Cheers,
Joel

Thanks Joel, looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the club soon.

Stupid question, but what is GSMTR? I've seen it mentioned a few times around the site. Also how far away is AOP from Nashville?

GSMTR is the acronym for great smoky mountain trail ride , it is our club sponsored event. AOP is roughly 100 miles from Nashville. Look forward to meeting you.

Great Smokey Mountain Trail Ride. It is the STLCA annual event. Currently scheduled for May this year at windrock ORV in Oliver springs TN. AOP is about 1.5-2 hours south of Nashville on 24 in South Pittsburg.

Edit: Jason beat me to it.

Roger hit the 9 instead of the 0

Should be--- 4th Annual Mardi Krawl which will be held April 7-10, 2016.

Marti Krawl

All sounds really good...where are some details on Mardi crawl?

If I was going to be home between now and then I would have.
