Has anyone ever outboarded the spring perches on FJ60 axles to match a Chevy?

I'm going to be going full width in my '40 in a couple years (gathering parts now, but tuition sucks my funds dry), and I've got some 60 series axles laying around. They're slated to eventually go into a '40 or '55 for my girlfriend.

So, I'm thinking...I want to move the front axle forward and put in Scout steering. I'm going to use mini truck rear springs to do this. But while I'm in there, why not outboard the springs and put the 60 series axles in to gain some width? I don't want to have to tear out the spring hangers and do them again, so it would be best if I could outboard the perches on the axles too.

How much of a problem would this be? If it works on my rig, I might outboard the springs again that far when I put the axles under the future project, but the springs would eventually need to clear 37" tires. Is that going to be a problem?

Not a big deal at all, you willprobably have to make new perches on the 60 axle to match the gm width. Go for it..

Dodge perches don't care SOA or SUA

What size tires are you planning?

I've got 33s, don't plan to upgrade until I go SOA with the Dana 60s.

If the tires rub the springs, I guess I can always add the IFS hubs I scavenged.

I'll also be inboarding the perches on the rear axle. I don't have any plans to outboard those springs.

how much do you have to outboard for full widths, isn't it like 3-4 inchs? The only worry is rubbing tires on the springs. You may be ok with 33's. My front springs are outboarded 1.25 and with 35's just clear, I think I'll have to pull my steering stops out a bit for 37s.

Let us know
