Has anyone ever outboarded the spring perches on FJ60 axles to match a Chevy?
I'm going to be going full width in my '40 in a couple years (gathering parts now, but tuition sucks my funds dry), and I've got some 60 series axles laying around. They're slated to eventually go into a '40 or '55 for my girlfriend.
So, I'm thinking...I want to move the front axle forward and put in Scout steering. I'm going to use mini truck rear springs to do this. But while I'm in there, why not outboard the springs and put the 60 series axles in to gain some width? I don't want to have to tear out the spring hangers and do them again, so it would be best if I could outboard the perches on the axles too.
How much of a problem would this be? If it works on my rig, I might outboard the springs again that far when I put the axles under the future project, but the springs would eventually need to clear 37" tires. Is that going to be a problem?
